'05 Vigo Shocks

I have been battling with some strange noises while driving and I thought perhaps the wheel bearings but I did the usual wheel tug and there is no movement there.

Having lifted the vehicle to check that I then noticed the shocks are leaking which of course would create handling issues as well as some vibration and noises whilst driving.

So it seems I will start with replacing the shocks.

Any take on what's available and decent that won't break the bank since my stash under the bed is low.

Suggestions appreciated.

Scott

I have had good service from Monroe shocks. I am on my second set since the originals and they won't break the bank.

So after driving around with the noise and constantly checking things, I put the vehicle up on all fours and ran it.

Found the right rear wheel bearing was shot and making a hell of a noise. Since they are press fit bearings it makes the standard tug test useless and only a stethoscope worked.

Pulled the hubs apart, and pulled the shafts out. While I was there I had the drums skimmed and shoes relined, R480

Toyota wanted R800 odd for just the bearing.
Bearing man charged R650 for a Timken kit that had the bearing and seals needed.

Took the shafts to a propshaft place and had them press out the old and press in the new for R520.

All back together with new diff oil and the it's back to quiet again.

Still need to do the shocks though as they are leaking.

Yup, DIY can save you a sizeable packet over time. Glad to hear that you found the noisy bearing.
