2003 hilux diff drop kit

Post by Drifter X »

Morning guys. I unfortunately snapped my outer cv joints on my kzte this week-end. To be quite honest I expected this to happen at some stage as I have ball joint spacers, 33 inch wheels and an auto locker....weakest point would be the CVS. Anyway I want to lower the front diff to correct the angle of the drive-shafts, I see 4x4 direct have the 25 mm spacers for 2 of the diff mounts and stabilizer bar, they dont seem to have the lowered cross member which is the 3rd mounting point for the diff. I need some advise on the following:
- where can I source or get my cross member properly modified to allow the 25 mm drop?
- Has anybody currently done this mod and if so is there any impact on the front prop shaft as this will now be at a slight angle?
- Any recommendations on CV joints, ie can I perhaps get heavier duty cvs and if so from where?

Any other advice will be welcome if you've experienced something similar, thanks.

Hi Ranesh, CV joint repair/replacement isn't cheap, hope you are prepared..
I've installed the ball joint spacers and diff drop kit and have no complaints so far. The propshaft angle is well within limits and I have not had any rubbing.
IMO the only way to make the front end more robust is to replace it with a solid axle, doubt that any heavy duty CV joints (if available) will be worth their money.

The third mounting point you refer to is a swivel point and you do not have to lower that one.

Thanks for the feedback guys, Gernot which diff drop kit did you use? Are you using just the 2 points to lower the diff and swiveling the 3rd?

I used the drop kit from 4x4 Direct to lower the diff and stabilizer bar. Will try and take some photos tonight.

Good Morning, herewith the photos as promised. Please excuse the dirt and grease...

I see there is some surface rust on the spacers under the anti-roll bar, probably worthwhile getting those powder coated before installation...
