Hi Guys

Does the SFA powersteering gearbox take any oil?
In the manual it is evident that the non-powersteering box takes gear oil but nowhere does it mention the requirement of any gear oil for the powersteering box or the packing of grease during assembly, neither can I see any evidence of a filler plug on mine. Does the powersteering A/T fluid run through the entire box and lubricate it by any chance? Mine is as pictured below:

Yep.

Did you rebuild yours? If so where are the pics man!

Nah just slowly replacing all fluids etc. No leaks, if it aint broke, don't fix it haha.

Luke what is your carby setup now? I think I saw on Faceboet that you are running a Weber?
Why so if your Aisin was also getting 8km/l with the modification to it?

What would be the best ATF fluid to use? And approximately how much will it take?

I've used Castrol for a long time without any issues. I also use it in my hydraulic jacks so buy 5lit at a time ... not too pricey either.

Thanks guys, fortunately bought 1L of the Castrol ATF Dex II today, which apparently matches the Dexron specified in the manual. Not pricey at all.

Currently I am running a weber 32/36. The Aisin I had on had the carburettor enhancer setup on it and it was ok on the open road but it was not idling well at all, I had it rebuilt by a reputable shop and even after they replace all jets and checked it out it still ran like crap. Realistically now I am getting 7.8km/l on the open road and about 6.5km/l in town if I don't drive like a taxi. Its my daily driver so I am sure about the mileage. And after the timing chain rebuild it runs soooo much better.

Do you think the carby enhancer caused it to idle poorly or was it merely the carb itself?
I haven't got to it yet but I plan on running the enhancer vacuum line into the cab with the needle valve on the dash so I can tune it, mark the setting and then easily flip it off for town/stop-start driving (smoother idling...?) and on for the lang pad. Have you considered implementing the enhancer on your new Weber?

With the Carb enhancer connected and disconnected it still ran badly, I have a video actually where you can hear it coughing and spitting through the exhaust. I am not sure what it was to be honest, all I know is after we installed the Weber it was a whole different machine, smoother more power and muuuch more economical.
At worst the carb enhancer gave it a slight dead spot as you take off, but the manual does say it will do that.

Most definitly, I wanted to get the bakkie back to normal runing condition and already with the new vacuum advance and weber i am getting the above mileage.

I actually shelved the cam for a standard cam like mud dog did with his Hilux. I am running standard timing specs at the moment.
