Hi there

I'm looking for a replacement gear lever boot for my SFA. Mine is quite tired after 32 years... Has anyone had any success in sourcing them, or a finding a similar part that fits?

I was able to buy a new one from TSA some years back. Maybe they still have stock?

I'm probably going to have to get a generic one from Midas and make up a Franken-boot. It doesn't matter what it looks like since I have a transmission tunnel cover already. It's more to keep the dust from coming in through the hole in the boot.

Try a few Midas stores. Maybe ones just out of your town as well if possible. They tend to keep different stocks. Some just keep the ordinary leather covers and I’ve seen at some stores (Durban) the ones similar to what the SFA has. They are universal, but will give a more authentic look.

Did some checking up with colleagues for the boots. Their reply was that I am looking for “goue hoendertande” They have canvass tranny covers which fits over the hump with side pockets for R620.00. I tried to post a pics. If pic does not come through I can whats app you pictures and their contact details.

Thanks! I already have a tranny cover. I more want an intact boot to help prevent dust getting in through the gaping hole in the current one.

Take the old one to an upholsterer, surely they can fabricate a new one based on the old one?

That's what I did with mine, McCarthys Auto Trimmers did mine last year but I had them also repair and respray my center consul as it was badly cracked.
I had tried to repair it myself a few times but it didn't hold.
I tried Toyota years ago for a new one but they didn't have any center consuls anymore.
But it wasn't cheap and they said they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't crack again and guess what it has started to crack already!

Go to one of the boat manufacturing companies. Usually when they are not so busy they tend to assist with small projects as fibreglass is there speciality and they do it professionally. They can make a new console from a sample usually at reasonable rates.

thanks for the tip will keep that in mind.

I found a generic gear lever boot at Midas and with a bit of cutting of my old one and the new one was able to manufacture a Frankenboot to keep the dust out.

While I had the gear lever covers off I found that the dust cover boot on the gear box was trashed too, so I cut it off and took it with me to Midas too. They had a small CV boot that fits almost perfectly over the lever and the gearbox tower.

Funny the small dust cover boot on mine also had a crack in it, I bought it from Toyota I didn't even think of Midas but I don't recall it being too expensive though.

Toyota will sell you one, as part of a complete gear lever assembly, for the lovely price of only 2.5k. Too bad if you only need the dust cover. "It's a complete assembly"

Not for my 2.4SRX it was just the small boot as per this link(33555):
