Front Diff

Post by Hilux Aardwolf »

Hi Gents,

I'm trying to remove the 'front drive pinion rear tapered roller bearing inner' race of my front diff but all the bearing pullers don't fit in there to engage the inner race. Am I doing it wrong or is there a specific tool small enough to fit and engage behind the race? :beg: :beg: :beg:

Attached is the drawing off a manual.

I'm in the Simonstown area if anybody has the 'specific' tool to borrow or buy.

Thanks.

On my old Touareg I had to cut it with a baby grinder on 2 sides until almost through and then hit it with a chisel to split it.

A Dremel tool with it's small diameter blade is nice for cutting in tight areas like that. If you don't have one it's a worthwhile thing to have with so many other uses, so it won't be money spent on a tool that you're only going to use once or twice.

Then when cutting the bearing race, if you cut at 45° rather than 90° you can achieve a deeper cut without cutting / scouring the rest of the work-piece. :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
