Morning to all.
I have been trolling this site for quite some time and picked up a lot of usefull ideas.
First time i need to ask a question.
So here goes.
I have a hilux 2.7 I with y3rz-fe motor 1999-2000 model.
The engine now has around 800 000 hassel free km's on the clock.
It has been used as a hunting farming bakkie for a long time only mod i did was fit metal body and removed independant suspension and replaced with solid axle for the veld.
Now here is my problem the engine has started to develop a bearing knock on piston closest to firewall. i have dropped the sump replaced big ends but not oil pump (my own stupidity) and after a while the back bearing started slapping again.
I now have three options:
1: Replace big ends again this time with the oil pump refurb kit
(Cranck looks good no marks as bakkie is driven relative low speeds in veld)
2. Replace engine witch is out of my tax bracket at the moment with engines costing
around
40-55k in Namibia
3. Convert to diesel Kzte motor wich will suit the use of the bakkie better. general farming
,Hunting, Fighting busg fires etc.
Now a question if i opt to take the diesel route will the 2.7 gearbox fit the kzte engine or do i need a new adaptor plate
I wil apreciate youre thoughts on these matters thanks guys

Re: New Heart for 2.7 hilux
I think changing from diesel to petrol or petrol to diesel is a hassle. Watched 4wd action and they had to change filler neck and fuel tank and the the dash cluster starts to become uneconomical cost wise I think. Just my 2c worth. I was also debating of making my kzte 4x2 into a 4x4 and I think I need to source the cluster and wiring for the 4x4 to switch on the dash. I think it's cheaper to sell and buy a 4x4 one

I would change the bearing again and this time an oil pump aswell.
If it fail again have the original engine reconditioned.
Kz conversion will not be cheap and you needs the Kz gearbox and computer box.
Hou wat jy het.
Hoe ver is jy van Okahanjda af?

Re: New Heart for 2.7 hilux
Due to my own negligence, I busted my head on my 1999 2.7 with full SAC conversion. Replaced the head with an aftermarket head, new valves, oil pump, water pump, big ends, and rings.
Sleeves and pistons were still spotless. Had 600 000 on at the time. Worth doing the full recon, these engines are indestructible.
