Cooper STT touches body

Post by KODA »

Just fitted new Cooper STT's (31x10.5x15) and the right-front wheel touches the plastic side-step cover when I turn right - what can I do to stop this - if I take the cover out, will the tyre hit the metal side-step off road? check out the pics of the right front and left rear as this appears to be quite close to the side-step as well. The second pic (lb) is the left back and the first (rf) is the right front.

Hi Koda,

Surprised the Coopers are touching. Do you have standard suspension? My 31" tyres come nowhere near touching, but then I do have a raised suspension. I recall some people with standard suspension mentioning that they have 31" tyres fitted and have no problems. Has your suspension sagged a bit?

Will have to see what others have to say on this topic.

Let them look at tighten up the torsion bars slightly and see if it helps.

My (04, DC KZ) also fitted with 31" Cooper ST and a standard suspension and no such problems. On the (lb) pic it seems that the plastic moulding is not properly tightened. Attached the (lb) of my bakkie.

Thanks guys - it's touching the black plastic mounts on my side-step bars and not the body itself - It is the std suspension.

Agree with Niel - Is it not possible to move the rear plastic mounts forward?

I can remove the plastic ends - will the tryres touch the metal part of the running boards when I'm off road?

Difficult to say... Why don't you remove them and see or maybe take it to a place that fits these type of steps and ask them if they can't shorten the step so that it clears the wheels :?:

Even better, remove the steps and get yourself some rock sliders?
