What is your professional opinions?

Post by Bullet »

My Lux have 220 000k's on the clock, I 'm looking for a reasonable conversion to increase power and fuel consumption. Here are the different options I'm looking at:
A)7mge conversion
B)Convert my current 22R into fuel injection
C)Heard about a new generation 2.4i Camry engine(most probably a cut-out)
I am not interested in a HiLexus!
What I would like to find out from those of you that have taken the plunge:
*What are the pro's and cons
*Price +\-
*additional parts needed
*expected power increase and fuel consumption
*Modifications needed
- of the 3 above mentioned options

This is going to be good! :)

I opt for a 22R-(BH)E, of course! Cheaper in the long run and 100% reliable.

Have you looked at Cassie's Dyna Chart? Very nice torque curve.

Danie. Bennie did a EFI conversion, hence the (BH), on my 22R motor and it is now effectively a 22RE motor. Have a look at this topic to see the Dyno chart: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3044&start=20

Very impressive, would you plse give me a quick breakdown of costs and spares used, if I understand correctly there was not a lot of modifications done other than the manifold and ecu and wiring

There was more involved with the conversion than just that :)

Have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4928&p=54467#p54467

I will PM you with a breakdown of the costs :)

As Cassie said. It is not that easy. Finding a EFI manifold to me seems impossible. Tried in South Africa but no luck. My nephew has tried in Houston Texas and is also battling. For the same price I've just bought a 3rz (2.7i).

Looking at Cassie's dyno chart, the torque figure and graph is impressive, but the kw isn't. My 2.4 with brospeed did 86kw on the flywheel. ( Cassie moet nie kwaad wees nie asb. :) ) What I'm trying to get at is, for hassle to get the manifold and $$$$$,rather go the 7M or 3RZ route. The are both Toyota engines and the conversions are not to complicated.

BUT both those conversions will cost about 4 times as much as what Cassie paid for his EFI.

Geen rede on kwaad te wees nie. The more information we give the better decision he can take.

You should maybe hold of a bit. Bennie will be looking into making a plan using the standard manifold and converting that into a EFI unit. Riaan's van has been done like that and I believe Bennie wants to improve on that design. So it may be worth it to wait a little while.

To be honest, I would love an 22RE convertion, but trying to source the parts, is hard work. Cassie was very lucky to get hold of everything. I was now lucky to get hold of a complete 3RZ at a bargain. What I'm not looking forward to, is the crap at the border post's from now on.

Why if the motor you buy is legit, you get a receipt from where you buy it, take it for police clearance afterwards and have your paperwork fixed with the new engine no, no sweat at all except the queues at the licensing office.

The main reason why people do the 7MGE conversion is because imported 2nd hand engines are dirt cheap and still in reasonably good nick. Also to overhaul a 7MGE motor is much cheaper than other models.

I know the motor you are referring to Reynhard, and to do a conversion like that will cost a lot of money as the engines are quite expensive. Also the availability of spare parts may be a problem. Seeing as the 7MGE was sold in a production vehicle (Cressida 3.0) in SA spares are available.
