Spotlight connection question

Post by ToyX4 »

Hi can anyone help me, please?

I'm no auto electrician, so I followed Benhur's instructions on the connection and wiring.

All went well, and the spots work, untill I switch of the lights. Then the spots goes back on, and stays on, even though
the ignition is off.

I used my tester to trace the correct wire for the brights, and connected the spots to this.
when the ignition is of and the lights are off, the tester lights up when testing the high beam wire, but the high beams are off,
the spots on.

Can anyone pls help me rectify this?

Without looking at Bennie's diagram again, I am guessing that either the relay is sticking (tap it sharply with a screwdriver), or perhaps you do not have a switch in your relay coil. I will have to look at Bennie's diagrams to be more precise, can't remember if there is a separate switch for optional spots, or if the connection goes directly to the brights.

My guess (if your wiring is correct) is it might be a ga-ga relay, they don't seem to make them like they used to. Do you get voltage across the relay coil when it's switched off?

hi F-D
Do you get voltage across the relay coil when it's switched off?
How will I know this? Like I said, I'm no auto electrician :)

Ithink I will buy a Hella relay tomorrow in Klerksdorp, cause the one I put in is a cheapy, by die kooperasie gekoop!

Thanks for the help.

Hi ToyX4

Are you sure the pins on your relay are in the same position as mine in the diagram. Some models out there do have the same pin in a different position. So check the numbering and see if yours differ. If so you will have to move the wires to the correct pins according to their numbering and not to the position in my diagram.(does my explanation make sense to you?)

If you do toggle the switch that goes to earth on and off (pin 85) while the high beams are on, do you hear the relay click on and off?

Hi Bennie

So iets. Ek weet net dat dit nou werk
