Re: Best oil money can buy
Opinions will vary... this had been discussed on numerous occasions on the forum, use the search tool to find these posts.
My oils of choice:
Shell Rotella T (if u can find it) 15-40W
Caltex Delo 400 15-40W
Shell Rimula R3 X 15-40W
All of these are marketed as diesel engine oils, but are 100% recommended for an offroading engine, where low rpm, high torque is used.

dont use diesel oil in a gas engine, it has detergents in it that are harmfull for a gasoline engine.
amsoil is a great offroad oil

Andre, I've been using this oil, it's not cheap but it is probably the closest answer you'll get to your question

I'm running Caltex Delo 400 15-40W. This is a Diesel/Petrol dual purpose oil with high levels of anti-scuff additives (which a lot of the newer, high spec petrol engine oils do not have due to emissions reasons).
The engine runs quieter and smoother since I changed to this.

Re: Best oil money can buy
Eric, I have only found it at one Midas outlet in PE. (Algoa Midas in Commercial road). It is quite hard to find, unless you get 4 friends together and by a box of 4 x 5 liters from the local Caltex distributer. 20 liters is their minimum sales quantity.
I think I paid about R 220 for 5 liters.

Re: Best oil money can buy
Delo is by far the best oil around. Use it freely in petrol engines.
So says a Caltex garage owner of 11 years with a very busy workshop, me.
Phone the Caltex head-office in Cape Town or Rosebank and ask for the lubricants rep. They will let you know where you can source the oil retail.
Not many retailers keep 5lt as Trade Centre gets bigger volume discounts than the retailer and sell it much cheaper. Trade Centre normally has the oil in stock.

I use Shell Helix. If it's good enough for Ferarri, it's good enough for my Hilux

Was at Midas & Autozone today and forgot to ask them. Will check if Senwes Village has some, they ought to if Parys does.

Re: Best oil money can buy
I buy mine from the local Autozone as they are 5c cheaper then the local Midas, but I could not get Caltex diff and tcase oil at Autozone only Midas stocks it. Delo400 is the best value for money oil on the market today.
Riaan
I will be scared to use an oil based on the performance of an engine that only has to last 2 races
Only kidding after Delo 400 that would be my next choice.

Re: Best oil money can buy
Hi Andre
See you from Cape Town.....you can get Delo 400 from "Industrial technical trading" opposite Caltex in Montague Gardens on 021 5517633.
They sell them in 5L and up.
5L for R166.18
20L for R646.63
Delo 400 is an excellent oil....just do a Google on it(Petrol and Diesel)
Synthetic oil is great but its not good on oil seals that are use to mineral oils;-(
Hope this helps
Daniel

Re: Best oil money can buy
I switched from Magnatec in my 22R to Delo 400 a few months ago and have noticed an improvement.
I have a small leak on my rear crankshaft seal since using Delo it doesn't drip on my garage floor any more.Oil pressure seems to come up quicker on start up.
If you want to find out more about oil check this website out:
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
Check out the forums,Delo is classified as a HDEO oil(Heavy Duty Engine Oil) suitable for both gasoline and diesel engines. On the forum there is a HDEO section.
A lot of guys are using it in motorcycles as well although some don't recommend it with wet clutches because it contains moly.I have had it in my Suzuki DR 600 for a couple of months now and haven't experinced any clutch slip.
