Push Pull light switch wiring

Post by dcsmax »

Hi,

I need to install a push pull type electric switch to my light circuitry of my one vehicle.

I need some assistance in terms of a sketch etc, of how the wires are connected so I can use the dims and parks on this switch.

I assume you want to install this into the canopy. Personally I would not cut into the park light harness .... can lead to future problems of bad connections, water / moisture corroding connections etc. I would run a separate earth and fused live into the canopy and the light switch is cut into the live (breaks the feed). Quite simple to do. ;-)

Thanks Mud Dog,
No, Its for my 1968 Mk1 Ford Escort.
The existing light switch eventually went on pension after 43 years.
I want to connect the existing wires of the dim and parks to the new 2 stage push pull switch, but not sure what to connect where as there are 4 poles to connect to.

Are you sure that it's the switch and not a relay? .... the switch normally operates a relay which supplies current to the lights ... the draw is normally too high for the switch contacts, hence the use of relays. The relays are normally close to the fuse box or battery.

If it is indeed the switch, can you not source one from a scrapyard any more? Otherwise re-route the cables from the original switch to toggle switches that you can fit on the dash.
