Reseat tyre on rim with lighter fluid

Post by cprinsloo »

Hi,

I have seen this on TV and on photos, and always had some lighter fluid with me for such an occasion. Last week I decided to give it a try, but all I managed was to nearly set the tyre on fire. Also tried spirits, no luck.
So, how much lighter fluid must I use? Must I wait so that everything evaporates? When do I light it?

Hope you guys can help,

Spark spray
spray into tire for aprox 20 seconds
push rim "in"
light
tire wil seat
wait till tire starts to "shrink" as the air inside cools down
remove valve
drink a beer

If you don't remove the valve and/or start pumping immediateness like Bartho did the hot air will shrink again as it cools down and the tire will suck itself off the bead again

No if the tyre shrinks you have to remove the valve else it suchs itself off the bead. When the tyre coolded down properly you can reinsert the valve. AT the tyre places they normally do the beading while pumpimng the tyre without the valve and will then just quickly take the airhse off and insert the valve while the tyre is already inflated.

I thought that maybe you remove the valve first, insert the fluid via the empty valve stem, then ignite the fluid; :?

otherwise how do you get the fluid inside the tyre :?:

You squirt it in around the rim bead and the tire. Did you check the videos?

I also left the valve in, and started inflating the tyre immediately... It was the first time I did it after seeing it done in some Aussie documentary tv programme, and I thought if they can do it so can I...

O ja, I forgot, since I rebeaded that tyre, every time I deflate that tyre to go off-roading I get high on the "blou-trein" fumes all over again...

when topgear went on the north pole expedition, they did this to the tyre to rebead it.
however I never saw them fiddle with the valve.

I also think pumping while lighting the fluid, is a better option.
The time it takes to remove the valve could allow the wheel to debead itself again???
