Garmin - Suction Cup fix

Post by ThysdJ »

About a year ago I asked if anybody could assist me in finding a new suction cup for my Garmin Quest bracket that sticks to the window. This was because it bonded to the window so well that it was pitted when I removed it and after that it kept falling off because it lost "traction" on the window glass.

As I could not find a replacement suction cup without having to part with lots of cash, I came up with another idea. I got hold of a little piece of "sticker" vinyl, cut it to the same size as the suction cup and peeled off the backing paper. Then I stuck the vinyl to the suction cup. The bracket has now been on the window for quite a while and it still sticks. When I remove it nothing stays behind on the window any more either.

It could even be a good idea to stick the vinyl onto a new suction cup before it gets stuck to the window to prevent it from bonding with the window too closely. The vinyl can be removed from the suction cup without too much hassle if it needs to be replaced, although I can see why you would want to.

Not being tight lipped, and at the risk of sticking my head out further, I would say, at a thumb-suck that Thuys' idea has solid merit. :)

That still does not explain the mud. I don't think you are intended to have mud on the inside of your windscreen :wth: :wth: :problem:

Thys jou idee is puik en dit sal werk as die rubber al stukkend is. Wat ek doen voordat ek die rubber laat plak is om so bietjie lip ice of sonroom aan die rubber te smeer, dit gee daardie lube wat nodig is asook dit laat nie die rubber vasklou aan die ruit nie. Na gebruik is daar so klien vetkol wat ek sommer met 'n lap skoon vee. Julle kan dit maar probeer dit werk ook goed.
