Winching a stuck Landy out with a KEW 8 000 electric winch

Post by SYRON CONVERSIONS »

First of all, I will let the photo's tell this story

My mate went out 4x4ing one Saturday afternoon with his wife and son and two huge dogs, well his words were when he phoned me for help,

"Dammit Simon I have got my 1994 Landrover Defender 110 which has a V8 engine stuck, I was driving along and suddenely it fell towards this small bog hole, the sand sort of gave way, please can you come out and help me"

Well sure my friend, you will help me next time

However.............

For safety reasons, I opened my Hilux's bonnet, connected the winch cable to his Landy, threw a short length of strap over the winch cable, made sure that his family were safely out of the way and then winched his vehicle slowly back and he was soon on his way again.

P/S The red box on the back of my Hilux is an old fire extenguisher box, I keet the Stihl chainsaw in it, out this way there are millions of damn thorntree branches that get in the way also make firewood to sell.

" to pay for my fuel"

I had a KEW8000 that lasted for 3 serious recoveries. The magnets in the motor came loose, and eventually caused the motor to burn out. It has a really stupid design where the motor cannot be replaced like other winches, so I had to throw it away....some people's KEW8000 winches seem to keep on working, but I still think it's just cheap Chinese junk!

Zantus, ek het so bietjie fout gemaak.

Watching LR recoveries .... that's like watching traffic go by, .... commonplace.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
