Dikhololo quickie
Visited Dikhololo last week with the parents, they had some luck with time share and manged a 3 night stay. Naturally we were invited along.
Arrived Monday afternoon, did some exploring and had a braai.
Found this old snake skin on the way to the lookout: View from lookout: Nyala coming right up to the chalet: Tuesdaymorning after breakie we did a hike through the reserve and spotted these:

Re: Dikhololo quickie
After lounging around the pool and the chalet all afternoon, I decided to scout for a fishing spot at the nearby Roodekopjes dam.
Just look what I found on the way back, right next door to Dikhololo...
Spotted this coming into the complex:

Darem net 'n blou kol op die heup tel lekker spoed op as jy op jou rug gaan met net jou vlerkies en hakke in kontak met die 'tube' het amper 'n vertikale 360 reg gekry maar ek dink my unieke fisieke toestand wou dit nie toelaat nieOOOOMS wrote:EINA.....hoop nie met te veel injuries nie...Stef wrote:Hit the supertube Wed afternoon, Thursday morning early we went fishing at Roodekopjes dam on the R511 side (Denekruin resort):

Nice, Stef! Excluding what looks like a young puffy, you've got what I consider the three best biltong producers ... Impala, Kudu and Blesbok. Don't like Eland biltong (too much like beef) and never tried Waterbuck or Wildebees, so can't comment there.
There are a lot of similarities between the Nyala and Kudu ..... Nyala generally has a smaller head and has more outstanding 'war-paint' markings at the eyes ... Nyala more slender of build .... Nyala has yellow / tan 'socks' on it's legs and often a hairy underbelly.
I was just thinking, it might be a good idea to start a thread with pics of our different types of game for easier recognition and to educate us all. I'm an avid hunter and don't even know them all since many are not indigenous to my neck of the woods.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Apparently it was a baby Python of some sort according to the ranger, not sure which one though. One could actually see a rat or somrting similar in size in its belly.Mud Dog wrote:Nice, Stef!
