Snow at Matroosberg - Ceres - Western Cape

Post by pietpetoors »

The Matroosberg was covered in snow the weekend. We decided to go and have a look since most of us never saw snow before.

The whole area are absolutely beautiful at the moment. The photo below was taken on the R44 just outside of Porterville on our way to Gouda.

At Matroosberg a whole lot of 4x4 vehicles lined up to go up the mountain. There were mostly Hiluxes and Landies.

The way up was slippery and great fun. The only frustration was that we had to wait very long for the Discos and Isuzus to get to the top.

We all had great fun building a snow man and having snow fights.

Afterwards we went to the camping area to enjoy lunch.

Looks very Lekker! All those mountains, beautiful greenness and a bit of white snow here & there. Luvverly! :D

My part of the world is in complete contrast, flat brown veld with pitch black areas where the veld fires were, and dust.

But hey, Summer is on the way and soon we'll revert to beautiful fields of green again... :P :P

You should not let that frustrate you. That is the nice thing about driving the Lux, you can spend some extra time relaxing and enjoying the nature and scenery while the other okes struggle to reach the place where you are.

P.S. Nice article on your website Piet. Maybe send it to Wegry/Driveout and they might publish it.

Bennie you are 100% right. When the cue started to move at the foot of the mountain we saw a little long drop and of course some of us first wanted to pay it a visit. So I went off the road. Then all the other vehicles passed us and it ended up that we were right at the back of the cue. So we had a lot of time to stop, get out, walk around, study the plants and insects, take photographs. After the others had the thrill of their life battling to get up the slopes, we just got into the car and drove to the next stop.
