So this past long weekend(took monday off

)we headed out to Sani pass.
The whole idea of the weekend was to test equipment before the Big one in December.
We opted to travel gravel as much as possible between GP and Sani.Total clocked on tar was around 200KM for there and back.
Was amazed to see how many small towns we usually fly by on the high ways,and the people are really friendly and helpful

We used a place called Highlands nook as base camp.

They are situated about 40km from the SA border post,and nestled in a valley with the most amazing views.
Sunday morning we headed for sani pass.Was busy and had plenty two wheelers to contend with.

The temp at top was 2 degrees,but for some strange reason very pleasant.
They recorded there coldest temp in June 2012 at minus 21 degrees.

33 people had to be airlifted off sani.
Some work has been done on the pass,the final few turns have been made wider,no more three point turns to get around the bends.No tar will be laid done for now

Some pics of up top,starting with the border post:no payment on SA side,R30.00 for Hilux Lesotho side.
No papers are asked for either.

The pub,food prices very fair(large portions),and under new management,two local lady's now own the place.

The are half way to the SA border post from Himmerville.All work has been put on hold.

That afternoon,the owner took all the kids in her 4x4 and went on a nature trip.From learning about trees.

I commented on the great pics last night, but seems my post is AWOL...

It's always good to see pics of Sani, the trip is always interesting and varied according to Season and time of day! Sani should be on everyone's bucket list :)

Was just about to reply to Mofasa,that 3 years back we were up there around the 16 th of December and had plenty snow and temperatures around minus eight degrees.It changes within hours,so always be over prepared.
