'Bavians Kloof' and 'Die Hell'
News from a current wander about.
Bavians Kloof: Road not good, very rough in places. 4x4 Not an essential but certainly preferable. I used it mainly to give better traction and prevent back wheels from spinning on loose rock. Low range very useful to crawl up very rough, rutted inclines and especially for a slow creep down steep descents; (I have 4x4 so I’ll use it.)
Sani Pass is like the N1 compared to Bavians Kloof.
Road to ‘Die Hell’ - A walk in the park. Only the last 4 to 5 km very steep with hairpin bends. Road recently graded as they are having a BMW launch there this weekend. They spoke of 60 vehicles coming in; - so if you were thinking of a trip to ‘Die Hell’ this weekend, best plan your trip for another time.

This is indeed true.. How many days did you spend in the 'Kloof? I cant wait for the pictures, this is probably one of the most scenic places in SA.Harold wrote:Sani Pass is like the N1 compared to Bavians Kloof.

It's one of those places where you go with you fully kitted 4x4, mud tyres, winch and all, and while you are negotiating the steep gradients and the moment arises when you think its time to use your new diff lock, one of the locals pass you with his Ford Sierra!

As jy ooit Baviaans toe gaan, leen n donkiekar by iemand.

Asemrowend. Klim in jou jou hande-vier-voet en gaan kyk self. Maak net seker hy is hande-vier-voet.
Groetnis.

Re: 'Bavians Kloof' and 'Die Hell'
As ek wil Baviaanskloof toe gaan, waar begin ek??
Is dit dieselfde as Die Hel en Swartbergpas?
Is daar kampplek? Geriewe, ens....

Laat weet my jou e-mai adres, dan stuur ek fotos.

Yebo, Swaer! ... dis nie sommer net 'n uitstappie nie .... dis so 5 ure se ry hiervandaan ...5½ - 6 met 'n 4Y! Dis amper halfpad Kaapstad toe! Ek is lanklaas daardeur maar dis ook 'n interesante part van ons wêreld, and to do it justice, one should spend at least a week in the area.

Re: 'Bavians Kloof' and 'Die Hell'
In Sept 2009 I said that Sani Pass was a walk in the park.
Well the rains this summer has changed that, it is no longer a walk in the park. If you go take care as there are sections of the road with many washes and rocks.
