Building your own off-road trailer

Post by pietpetoors »

In April 2006 we went to the Richtersveld.
We did not have an off-road trailer, so I decided to build one two weeks before the trip.
I wrote the whole story and placed it at http://www.pietpetoors.com/trailer/

What tools did you use? Did you use a angle grinder or cutting machine to do the cutting work? Did you use an arch welder?

Geez Piet... I built a couple of valve amplifiers and bent my own metal chassis... I was so proud of those, kinks and all... :D

I see I have a long way to go with my metal-work... the trailer looks great!

I am selling my trailer for R14,000. This what it cost me to build. With the Hilux I have enough space and do not use the trailer anymore. Anybody interested can contact me at 083-431-5841

hey there i had a question about the trailer, can anyone tell me how much the trailer ways? unloaded and fully loaded, because if it ways more than 750kg loaded than i will need a new driver liscense, to pull some wait.
so if you can tell me, doesn't need to be exactly just so i have an idea of the wait.

thx davy

that's the law out here in belgium, if you want to pull a trailer above 750kg you will need a new liscense.
it's stupid, i know, my dad got his car liscense and got the trailer and moto liscense for free with it, but since a few years you need another liscense, for car is BE, and you can pull a small trailer, above 750kg you need a BE liscense.

Hi Pieter, Moet jou gelukwens. Baie goeie Job gedoen.
Goed gedaan.

Louis, ek het hom oneglukkig verkoop voordat ek hom kon weeg.
Omdat dit eintlik my ou sleepwa was ek wat "net herstel het" was dit "nie nodig" om hom te weeg vir registrasie doeleindes nie.
