Niel, have you not seen Pietpetoors se article?
http://www.pietpetoors.com/trailer/index.php

On the community forum there is also a thread on this. Think you'll find it under the most read threads on the main page.

Good luck.

Bou sommer twee, ek sal myne kom haal as jy klaar is.

As ek die dag koop, sal ek so een koop.

Ek het nog daar agter 'n ou Cortina agter-as wat ons kan modify en 2 wiele, die een se tyre is al bietjie ge-perish maar hy sal nog werk... Daar is nog so 20% loopvlak oor..

Sorry abt they delays ..the trouble with lending stuff to your neighbours is trying to get it back (tipping trailer)
Neil, how far with your trailer??
Try Schleggel in Montague Gardens for your axels, wheels and all things trailer related.
You know that you are gonna battle to get a licence for a home-made trailer if you use anything other than a legit "trailer" axel.
When you say 4x4 trailer, are you talking camper (like the Inyati camper) or a big ass kitchen sink on wheels?
A nice trick braking system is to mount a clutch master cylinder in tandem to the trailers sliding hitch and you get hydraulic brakes which work a lot better than the normal cable system, also you can get the original Landy round tail lights from Roverland (Montague Gardens) which are cheaper than the LED tail lights. While you are there, you may even find a Landy badge to give the trailer some class.

I enquired about an axle for building a trailer and was told only registred builders are allowed to. Apparently above a certain total weight limit you have to have a SABS approved braking system. The only available is not hydraulic.
Make sure if you will be able to register the trailer before you build.
I registered a homebuilt trailer 6 years ago and spend almost 3 days doing it. This was before the new burocratic
b***%%%t.

Have fun anyway.

I have been deterred to build it myself and therefore decided to have the "frame build and registered and then finish it myself.

What??? you ar'nt a registered trailer builder...shame, I am...(I am also involved in a small business that manufactures and repairs rubber ducks, therefore I qualify as a "trailer builder'..the specs for a boat trailer are virtually the same as a normal goods trailer)
The nice thing about buying a trailer from a registered builder is that there is no roadworthy bollie, so grease my sweaty palm and we can talk (that is about getting info or bits from Schlegel.. dont want to make it too easy for you)
The whole trailer building exercise is very similar to owning a Landy in that 80% of your time is spent fixing the problems found during the 20% drive time
A trick I learnt when I used to build choppers was to roadworthy and licence the bike in its original condition before chopping in. I did the same with a venterkie before turning it into a double axel boerewors trailer ( I hope their ar'nt any occifers reading this)

Picked this up on the local landy site----

2007 buzzard off road trailer with 2.5 ton axle, shocks, galvanised spade, 2 x gas bottles and holder, heavy duty coupler, roof rack, high lift jack bracket, 2 x jerry cans and holders, doors open on side and rear doors with cutlery holder on inner back door. 2 x spare steel 5 stud rims and used tyres. Just been licenced March 2008/2009 - only used 3 times and looking for an adventure R18500-00 Mike 082 659 5020

This may be a better option if you dont want to build it yourself (the roadworthy is still valid so you dont have to hassel with registration)

As jy weer PTA toe kom kan jy Silverton Canopy Centre try, hulle is in 266 Dykor weg Silverton, maar ek sien hulle website is plat (http://www.scc-accessories.co.za/)
