New wheels for my......

I got hold of a second hand set of A-Line alloys for my ...... I wasnt exactly extatic about he wide expanses of silver on them so I decided to de-bling them a little..

Firstly I used 1000 grit waterpaper to flat them, then washed all 4 rims with clean green to get rid if any mud, muck oil and grease. After that a quick wipe down with Benzine to make sure all oil and grease was gone, and once that was done, rubbed them down with some thinners.

The hardest job of it all was masking the "lip" which I didnt want to spray. I used very narrow (10mm) masking tape to follow the lines beatifully and then masked the rest with wider masking tape and newspaper.

Then the sprayjob was on. I used Satin Black from a spray can. After about 5 coats the wheel centers were covered nicely with no runs. I managed to get 2 wheel centers done with 1 can.

.... you'll just have to carefully wipe off the over-spray, but the silver areas should also have a clear protective coating ..... you could damage that with thinners. Might have to polish it out.

There was no overspray Andy.. Are you talking about the black specks on the lip of that one rim? That is "corrosion" and I will polish that out with AutoSol..

Yeah, that's what I meant .... looked like blotchy o/spray from an aerosol. My mistake.

Thys dit lyk goed. Jy laat dit so maklik lyk en klink. En daar dink ek die heel tyd ek will myne laat doen maar om hulle te laat powder coat. As mens seker is die verf gaan nie vir die geringste krappie afkom nie, is dit wat jy gedoen het beslis die roete om te volg en jouself a klomp geld te bespaar, om nie eers te praat van die plesier wat mens gaan kry om dit self te kan doen nie.

Shane wat is die heel ergste wat kan verkeerd gaan? Kom ons se daai rimme tel krappe op, wat nie maklik gaan wees nie want die centers sit redelik diep, dan flat en spray ek die gekrapte rim weer oor. Ek glo nie die verf sal afdop nie, want my voorbereiding was redelik deeglik gewees.

Daar sit 'n stel pro-white rimme op die .... wat ek nou al vir 2 jaar mee ry, en wat ek ook so gespray het, en hulle hou nog mooi.

As die paintjob regtig disastrous gekrap word en afdop, dan laat ek die rimme sand-blast en powder coat.. maar vir nou is ek tevrede..

Powdercoating is meer scratch resistant, maar dit kraak as dit ouer raak en jy kan dit nie "optouch" as dit n merk opkry nie, verf is beter

so, wanneer ry ons weer 'n bietjie. Op die oomblik ry ek seker die 2.7 wat die ligste op brandstof is. Hy loop maar min die laaste tyd, staan in die garage en stof opgaar.
