Roof rack alterations

Post by Rusti »

Hi guys,

Last year I bought a long front runner roof rack that came off an old Prado, with the intent of modifying it to suit my SFA. I wouldn't usually buy something that clearly isn't intended for the bakkie but it was a giveaway price.. R2500 Inc 4x jerry can holders and an easy awn 2000, all in next to new condition. It had just been kept in the garage for the last 5 years.. So it was the 22nd Dec when I bought it and we were off to tankwa on 26th.. I quickly found out that all the aluminium welders had closed! Excapt for a mechanical aluminium welder that I found that works from home.. You can see where this is going... He did his best and the front Prado gutter fins were curved, which we found out after our first attempt at fitting it.. :lmao: . So needless to say we got it to fit properly by the morning of the 26th but it was a bit of a hack job..

Now it's time to get it done right.. if you know of reputable alu welders in cape town that specialise in off road goods please recommend them. Basically the basket is still 100%. The fins may be able to be re-used used but they need to be cut off and welded to the basket correctly and neatly.. I want it to look as if it was new.. if you know of welders in the southern suburbs even better as I live on this side..

Thanks
Rusti

Any idea what this should cost to do? I'll post pics when I get home tonight.
