1989 FJ75 Land Cruiser steering upgrade?
Hi i would like some advice, i currently have the OEM steering setup on my 1989 FJ75 Land Cruiser chassis. Im not satisfied with the steering when driving, i was wondering if i convert to rack and pinion will it be a upgrade or n fatal mistake?

I cant see how a rack and pinion will be strong enough to handle that SFA. I may be wrong but I would not try it.
Why do you want to change it, dont you have power steering?

Yes Knuppel i have power steering, i busy with conversion from leaf springs in front to coils. So im getting opinions about the steering to stay OEM just to restore it or go maybe for rack and pinion. Most replies to stay OEM

I would also stay away from a rack and pinion on a sfa. What exactly is it that you are not happy with with the OEM setup?

The wondering and hop. Specially on round curved roads. I know its a lot of factors contribute to it. But i can feel the steering box have a bit of play also. So i collect some ideas while i do the leaf to coil conversion.

Reasons why a 75 Cruiser would wander on the road.
1. And this is the number one cause, your U-bolts are not tight enough!! You need a long strong handle to fasten them properly. Two person job.
2. Shackel bush rubbers worn
3. Lack of proper adjustment on the adustable steering links
4. Tie rod ends worn
5. Knuckle bearings worn or pirate bearings have been fitted.
