12V DC wiring question

I am in the process of replacing two external hella plugs on my Echo Chobe with brad harrison plugs. The hella plugs were wired with just one negative wire to the metal bracket holding the plugs in place.

Can I just split the negative wire into two to wire the two brad harrison plugs? My instinct reckons it should be fine but I would just like to confirm with the guys that know.

Thanks

It will work but the question is what you want to run off the B H plugs and will the wiring be able to handle the draw. The Hella plugs are designed for a much lower amperage draw than the B H plugs.

If your trailer battery negative is connected to the chassis / body, then it might be better to ground the earth connection close to the plugs (one for each plug) with a suitable gauge wire but that still leaves the positive wire that might be inadequate for your planned draw across the two plugs. If the fuses are still original values for the original wiring, then the fuse will protect the positive wire ...., you might however have to replace it every so often if it blows because of excessive current draw. Alternatively you will have to run new suitable gauge wire. :winkx:

Thanks Mud Dog. Wiring seems thick enough and the two plugs will be for two camping fridges so 2.5 to 3 amp draw. Wouldn't run anything like a compressor from those plugs. What had me doubting myself was the setup with two positive wires and only the one negative. I do have some spare in-line fuses I could use on the positive wires. I would have run new wires but getting it through the conduits and around all the bends will probably drive me crazy.
