Loadbin aluminium box and towbar

Post by Ramkat »

Someone on the forum has a half canopy or box made from aluminium, don't know if i'm describing it right, not a full canopy, only half as high as normal canopy. I want to know who that is so i can take a better look at his design. Please let me know who it is, I have the same idea.

Also, I'm looking for ideas on a towbar, same type as i had on Ramkat for kz shape loadbin.

Thys (Kaspaas) and Jaco (Suidwes) both have "half" canopies.

Thanks, I had a look at yours. The first thing is the access, as you mentioned, it's a pain to open tailgate, open canopy door and slide out fridge to get to something cold. I also don't want a canopy that goes to high up.
My idea is a slider at the bottom for ammo boxes only, a platform on top of that with another slider for fridge etc. The canopy must then just be high enough to fit over all that. On top of the canopy i want a roofrack for sparewheel, jerry cans etc, and I want all this to end up not much higher than the bakkie roof. If you have anormal height canopy, you can open canopy door only and open fridge, lot easier, but i don't like the height.

My main reason for building the canopy to that height was to limit the wind resistance when i put the RTT on top of the canopy. It works, as I can travel long distances at cruising speeds of up to 130km/h with a RTT in place and still get consumption figures of 7km/l.

The height of the canopy is restrictive as far as fridge access is concerned, but my fridge goes on the back seat behind the passenger seat, as we are always only 2 in the vehicle. Spare wheels on top of the canopy is awkward, as it is a mission getting them up and down from there.

I hear what you're saying about spare wheels, but if you put them on towbar it's another thing that needs to be opened to get into the back.

That is exactly why I made a full swing door with the spare mounted on it. Now there is no more hassles with opening and closing spare wheel carriers etc etc.
