Niel, I agree with Riaan. We need to finalize the suggestions and put up a poll for the members to vote. And no I dont think Rustenburg/Pretoria/Loftus/Ewald's Back Garden should be an option. We need to really think along the lines of North Eastern Cape/Southern Free State to be fair to the guys from the Cape, Gauteng and KZN. The Kimberley/Bloemfontein area comes to mind. Simon, we are not going to consider Queenstown. It is too far away from everything...

Guys and Ladies, I am not sure which of you fall into the lady section, however here is some useful info to consider for a venue, come on be more responsible and take this seriously (yeah boere like to joke).

Hello Simon

Glen asked me to mail you and answer your questions, he is sorry he couldn't reply yesterday afternoon.

We will allow the dogs, we have a good tempered male labrador/boerbull here, he has been fixed, so I don't think he will give them trouble. Please just carry responsibility if the dogs do damage furniture etc. We also have sheep sleeping in the kraal, you will just be responsibile to keep them away, but again, I don't think jack russels will be a problem.

Let me know if you are still unsure about the rates of accomodation on the booking form.

Our rates are the same the whole year around, if you do only book by next year, please just phone and check if it is still the same.

Our 4x4 trails up the mountain are guided. Usally we leave on Saturday mornings at 9, at all the obstacles have escape routes. The grade 5 will not damage your vechile if you follow the guide's instructions. Two do require low range and lockers. This trail is R200 per vechile. If you ride on our Land Cruiser it is R120 for adults and R90 for kids. We barbeque at the holkrans, bring a few drinks and something to braai. We provide wood.

During long weekends we also do a scenic route on the Sunday. Also guided and again we will barbeque at the holkrans on top of the mountain.

There is also a Playpen 1 and 2 at the foot of the mountain where the accomodation is, which you can do at your own leisure with no additional costs. The Playpen won't require lockers, only if it is realy muddy because it zig-zag's accross the river bed. You can also drive around the game on your own.

The nearest town, Marquard, is 30km away for fuel.

Nearest workshop is Clocolan, 40km away, although this is ofcourse something to be aware of, our 4x4 route has been rated by Drive-Out as the Top 10 in the country and we have never had vechiles overturning or any other serious damage. Our guide, Glen, is realy top notch!

Hope this answers all your queries, please feel free to contact us if you need more info. We look forward to welcome you here at Korannaberg.

Our website http://www.korannabergadventures.co.za

Kind Regards
Annerie Conradie

So let us talk some serious stuff now guys and ladies :!: :!: :!: :!:

Vir die wat nie weet nie, Marquard is so 3h30m van Jo'burg af. So entjie ander kant Senekal.

Well so far it seems the only place that is a real possibility is Korannaberg although I might of missed something in amongst all the boere taal :?
This place seems great but I hope there will at least be a few more to consider.

I think there are a few more things that still need to be considered which could have implications on the venue to use as well.
1. How many people will attend?
2. What will the cost be?

Maybe Neil you can start another thread with a list of who intends to attend this GTG and how many people will be with them and also what accommodation they would like.
I guess it will be best if you just keep a single post and we can pm you details and you can edit the post as we go along  Oh! and maybe we should include were we will be coming from.

Considering we are all at different income levels I think its important to have a varying price range so we can have the largest attendance possible.
If we can determine some numbers of who will attend then Im sure a mass booking can be made at a venue with a good discount
This all depends on how many people will actually be attending if an entire venue can be booked at a set price then we could put together packages at different price ranges according to accommodation etc..

Oh!! and maybe those pesky Land Rover and Datsun drivers should be charged extra...

Ek ONsekondeer die mosie...

I UNsecond this mole...

I keep of the idea that we for different incomes group must supply make.

Ek se ons begin by R2500pppns (per person per night sharing) en gaan slegs tot by R9500 pppns. Dus sal daar 'n pakket wees wat almal sal pas.

I says we begin with R2500pppns (per person per night sharing) and go only to by R9500pppns. Thus shall there a packet be what everyone will fit.

Plekke asseblief?

Venues please?

I had a look on the map at work where this Rusternberg place is, well
:o   there is no ways that I will be driving all this way up to that place from Queenstown and then for the guys down in Cape Town, it is even worse.

I recon that the best thing to do is forget about this topic, rather just go out to our different 4x4 trails and share the pic's here on this web site instead, it is NOT the question about fuel and expense, but more about "driving all that way with my Truck and experiencing the lower back pain from the damn seats in the Hilux"

A few years back, a Lady drove her 4x4 all the way from The Cape to come 4x4 up this way and she said that it was a long long trip, thus guys Rusternberg is out for me :P

Korannaberg of Witsand is `n baie goeie idee.....

Korannaberg has been the only proper suggestion here so far :|
Neil I agree with Thys just pull a Mugabe on us all and the rest of us must obey :!:
No venue is going to be 100% central or to everybody's taste and lets look at the bigger picture if you have a national GTG once a year it can change location each year and every one will get a chance to have it somewhere close to home

Hoor hoor!
Hear hear

Make you the decide and we fall in

Hoe meer sentraal hoe beter
How more central how beter

Maar is ook nie bang om te ry nie
But is also not afraid around to ride not

Against that time might it maybe more a decision be of humans the R5000 per tank will want pay

Hi mense

IS DIT NET EK OF IS DAAR NOG SOOS EK ?

TROTS HILUX

Hi Okkie,

To all the other guys I agree a Hilux GTG wont be the same without allot of Hilux's.
Everybody seems to be so hung up on travel distance and the fuel price.

I really love driving my Hilux but in my mind it is a case of waste not want not. But it is like you said. One can budget and save for this trip no matter where and when. We just need to decide on a venue and date.

4x4ing is a passion that has has brought this forum together, and so too, has been the instigating factor in organising a national GTG. Although I'd love to meet all you guys, I'd prefer to do this on "our own ground" 4x4ing........

Yes, one would save on fuel costs, traveling in a car, but what would we talk about?

The passion that has built this forum, is the same catalyst needed for a great weekend. I just don't think it would be the same, let alone worth while for most, to foot the fuel bill, without 4x4ing and getting to some of the splendid "far out" place our country has to offer. That is after all why we've invested in our 4x4's. Not?

The object of a GTG, is to share in our passion, share in our experiences, invest in a hard days 4x4ing, coming back to a campfire and reminiscing on great day of fun with a couple of cold frosties, and then tackling the long pull home, slightly depressed that such a great weekend has come to and end, but with renewed energy, and a longing for the time to pass..... and the next outing into the great outdoors.
