Sorry you going to have to come down to Cape Town, dunes and mountains... or go up to JHB... mine dumps and well... mine dumps... big one and small ones!

You could always take a look around the Drakensberg... but the road to the top is tarred...

Don't worry - Valley of a 1000 Hills are about 5km from my house, so there's plenty play area before you reach the Berg.
But always keen to ask about new places just in case.

Hi Etienne,
I take it you referring to HighStakes and Gwahumbe??
Have you been
to Shongweni waterfall yet? And the quarry just before it.

Hi Belinda, welcome to the forum. Can you perhaps give us more details about Killarney 4x4
I received an email from somebody in Durbs this week who wants to know if there is any Hilux4x4 events taking place in KZN. Perhaps you guys can look at getting a couple of Hiluxes together and go do a trail or two?

Thanks Pieter!
The 4 wheel drive club is holding their GTG at Killarney on Sunday, and other 4x4'ers are also welcome. A convoy trip to Shongweni waterfall has been arranged for the afternoon. The costs are R100 per vehicle per day. There are several trails, as well as a playpit in the quarry.
If you coming from Durban side, take the Hillcrest/Shongweni/Assagay offramp. Turn left. Go past the Shongweni Dam offramp and just follow the road into Shongweni Valley. You will eventually see Stonehaven Castle on your right. Just past the castle, is a turnoff to the Right towards Shongweni Station. You will see a board to Killarney directly in front of you. Just before the station, you will see our next board on the left. It's a dirt road. Just follow the boards. There is also a camping site available, ablution blocks, lapa and swimming pool, so the whole family is welcome!
A number of different events and challenges are being planned over the next few months, so nobody can complain about being bored anymore...
For further details you can phone me at 0842093887 or Heinz at 0828954208.

Thats correct. I have heard about the quarry and waterfall route, but havent been on it yet. unfotunatly my offroading is a bit in isolation, heard its prefable to have two or more vehicles travelling on the route. There is kirkfalls? i visit now and again thats also in the shogweni area but its more of an overgrown access path.
what is the procedure to access the waterfall route? heard the land owner was unhappy about unauthorised access or something.

its great news to hear about killarny! i will definatly be comming for a visit soon! thanks berlinda!

Hi Ossewa,

There is a "shortcut" to the waterfall that runs over private property. To keep the peace, we don't use that anymore.
There is no problem with the "normal" route.

I agree - best to go with at least 2 vehicles, so post an invite if you ever wanted to go and I'm sure you'll find takers.

We have been negotiating with our neighbour for some time now, and he has granted us permission to go to the waterfall on one condition. That we go in as a group, in convoy, and that I notify him a few days in advance. So, if you guys are keen, and we can get a small (or large) group together, I don't mind arranging it... :D
Then at least nobody will get shot at!!!

Hi Belinda, for interest sake - I know the "short-cut" route falls within his property, the one that comes out next to his front gate.
But is the "normal" route front the quarry side also on his property??

Pierre,
The "normal" and only acceptable route would now be through Killarney 4x4. With prior permission from the owner. He has agreed, as long as we contact him beforehand and all vehicles go in convoy.

For those of you who are interested, we have organised a trip out to the waterfall on sunday morning. We will be leaving in convoy from Killarney 4x4 at around 10am.

If anyone's planning anything in the KZN area, please keep me in mind. I'm always up for a drive and need to start exploring the area and trails here.
