Burchell's eco-oxwagon trail.

Post by wacky »

Hello Guys
Went to Pinelake Marina 8/8/09 for a week and then decided to do Burchell's oxwagon trail.Left six o clock the morning of the 10/08/09 took the turn-off from Plett and drove (Prince alfred pass) to Avontuur and then to De Vlug.untarred gravel road for good km's.we deflated the tyres to ease the ride comfort and engaged in 4x4.Managed to get to Oom Katot around 10nish.Seeing that we are kaapies Oom Katot said he gonna pack stones at his gate.We drove pass the stones ( the stones was twee halve bakstene) and then turned around. :( Seeing that we had women and children we were informed they must do their thing and showed us to the bush tiolets.knowing its a bush tiolet we were expected to see balies.wrong we were met by a flushable tiolet in da bush.(to the women's amaze. .after we powdered our noses we received the map of the trail and was directed to do gate.At first Oom katot ons lekker gewaarsku ens gese ons moet versigtig wees want daar het al cruisers vasgesit en die oom moes alleen die trail terugloop vir help.
the first uphill was rocky with a few steps here and there.nothing much to write about.got on top of the hill and was met with a 660m drop to the bottom.enjoyed this section tremendously.
Seeing that there is no braai/camp facilities on the trail Oom katot gave us permission to braai on the riverbed.Lekka gebraai en toe vat ons die res van die trail aan. we came to a section (bypass) "4x4 with difflock only " a few vertical steps and nothing fancy.then we was at the turn around point, back the way we came.driving through loooooooong grass and trees makes this a scenic route.went through a couple of donga's ?mudpools and then back into the trees again.on our way back was met with a tree fallen in our path.we eventually winch it out of the way and continued around the mountan.very scary vertical drops to the side making for step toe-ing the last section of the route.anyway finish the trail about 6pm and stopped at Angie at G-SPOT in De vlug. a must for a drink or something cold( hot chocalate or some coffee).
will post pictures later with comments.

feite omtrent Oom katot:
