TECH day

Post by JEEPIE »

well after viewing and participating in some of the more technical obstacles set up this past weekend by various clubs at the AAWDC event at gerotech this past weekend i have come up with a idea.

lets instead of always doing only a trail per month have a "TECH DAY"
in these tech days we can look at various things,

1. proper use of a high lift jack - recovery and wheel changes
2. proper use of winch - recovery and safety
3. driving techniques - obstacle and poles
4. basic first aid
5. basic maintenance checks on a 4x4
6. recovery gear and uses
7. enviromental issues
8. camping
9. towing and reversing of trailers
etc

your views or opinions are welcome

Good idea. I hope it will include to check if the glow plugs on a diesel vehicle is on before try and starting it with a strap around the wheel. :slap:
I know this is a issue for you as well (because it is different from event to event) but then we can check the recovery points on the vehicles in the club.

The next event is on the 1st of September at Hennops. There will be a large group by the looks of it. I think we can do all / some of the following at this event:

1. proper use of a high lift jack - recovery and wheel changes
2. proper use of winch - recovery and safety
3. driving techniques
5. basic maintenance checks on a 4x4
6. recovery gear and uses
7. enviromental issues

Just need a few volunteers going that day to help with demonstrations. If there is a part of the group that just want to do the trail, they can, the rest can stay for the demonstrations.

I think Hennops has enough space and different types of obstacles to do this.

I you agree we will arrange for that day??

A system we use for training is to run various bases.Divide the group into teams and rotate them through the various bases after an allocated time period.
Example:
Base 1 first aid
Base 2 hi lift jack
Base 3 choosing correct lines
And so forth......

It seems there is a bit of confusion around this planned TECH DAY and the event we are holding on the 1st of September.

The Tech day will be planned at a later stage. The 1st will only be n fun get together. you will be more than welcome to ask questions should there be anything you would like to know.

hi gents
this tech day thing , well wont just be run on 1 day
there are alot of things we can do , so , learn and talk about
i am busy getting the correct learning material together along with trying to arrange if possible to have informed / trained people to assist
we need to arrange goods require to host the tech day too
a thought on the recovery side , was to do a weekend away at a specific venue where actually incidents can e created and we can have lots of fun
so please , its not a slap together thing this , and it WILL happen.
we will put it out there before deciding on a set date to start to try and accomodate as many as possible

ok back to our tech day planning

i had a chat last week friday with the gent from bridgestone
what would you guys think of having a tyre tech day
we can view a couple of different tyres , find out how they are made , what they were actually designed for etc
i will try and confirm if we can make use of one of the supa quick outlets in boksburg

gauthrie used to do the training for all their outlets
to give you an idea , trained in excess of 2000 people a year

2nd option we have been toying with
a survival weekend in the bush
we have a nice well informed dude ( our very own thunder 02) that is also very involved in scouts too.
we also have the use of a qualified ecologist (RAFS) . she knows plants and stuff
so we plan a weekend out , involve the family and especially the kids

thoughts will be appreciated

All this sounds awesome and is an excellent way for all involved to learn
the correct way of doing proper, safe off-roading.

I see most of the discussions center around JBH and PTA.
Is there nothing planned here in the WC or am I jumping the gun a bit?

a survival weekend in the bush
we have a nice well informed dude ( our very own thunder 02) that is also very involved in scouts too.
we also have the use of a qualified ecologist (RAFS) . she knows plants and stuff
so we plan a weekend out , involve the family and especially the kids

thoughts will be appreciated

I just want to check the mad skills of the 2 guru's

Neil please identify this knot?
Looks like a Blood Knot or a Constrictors Knot, can't make out for sure.
