6 Sept 2014 - Spring Day @ de Wildt 4x4

Post by Cleaner »

40 positions currently filled - 1 is TBC - Will keep them until 2014-09-03 and then open them up!

As by request, another fun filled Spring Day outing to start the summer!

And this year we will be doing it at the always popular de Wildt 4x4 trail close to Brits.

This is a nice family outing with easy to moderate obstacles. There are escape routes at all the obstacles, so new people to off road as well as the regulars, all are Welcome! Trail is also new vehicle and 2x4 friendly, and there will be lots of experience to make you comfortable taking your vehicle out to learn what it is capable of doing!

There are braai facilities so bring along the family, some drinks and meat for after the trail and we can enjoy a lovely Spring day in the company of AWESOME PEOPLE!! :yahoo: (Quoted Rafs)

Have a look at the de Wildt 4x4 website for pictures and details about this great trail!

Logistics:

We will get together at the Camping area at de Wildt at 08:30. Drivers Briefing will be at 08:45 and we will start the trail at 09:00!

We have a couple of Club Radio's available for rent @ R25 a day with a R100 Deposit - Please book in advance with Ali3n!

Ali3n and I will be leaving the Total Garage (-26.043711, 27.954361) on the corner of Malibongwe and Christiaan de Wet/Northumberland/Witkoppen Road (Why it has to have so many names, I don't know :P ) @ 07:00 on Saturday morning if anyone wants to join us on the drive there.

For the day, bring with -
  • Meat and chicken (salad) for the braai
Cooldrinks and water for the trail
Recovery Gear (Don't stress if you don't have any - The EC's will have theirs there - Rather check what they have and ask the reasons why they have it, before you go out and buy anything specific for the day)
Chairs to sit and tables if you want to sit and eat at a table
    Cutlery and crockery
Toilet paper (in case facilities run out)
Alcohol will be strictly forbidden on the trail! You are welcome to enjoy your refreshments and beverages afterwards at the braai!
Bag of wood for the braai - 1 per vehicle will be good - Update - Not required anymore! Thanks to Image for their contribution!!
Directions:
De Wildt 4×4 Turn-off GPS Location:

Latitude: 25°40’10.46″S
Longitude: 27°56’46.07″E

De Wildt 4×4 is between Freeway and the Schietfontein Butchery on the R513.

Cost: R250 per vehicle (You can pay this into the Club Account)

UPDATE!
Please note the following:

Cost: R250 per vehicle

The EC's have negotiated a day price of R220 per vehicle! :celebrate: :yahoo: :celebrate: :yahoo:

If you have already paid into the Club Account - You will be refunded on the day!

Thanks to the organizers of this day!! Well done Guys and Girl!!

Remember that if you add R20 to this saving - You can also get an awesome set of pink valve caps in support of the 2014 PINK DRIVE BY BRIDGESTONE! ;-)

Historically the first week in September has terrible weather ....

Be that as it may, I would like to join you guys for the trail and the braai afterwards. Just a question: My wife is pregnant with our second one, wil it be safe for her to stay at the braai area whilst I do the trail? How long does the trail normally takes?

Yes, there is a lovely braai area right at the start which we will return to. Trail will depend on the amount of vehicles, anything from 2-4 hours. Will also depend on how much we play, but you can break off anytime and return to the start. Management are also great people and your wife should not be all alone at the braai area. They are normally around as well.

After plenty of discussion and much deliberation (About 3.2 sec worth :o: ), it was decided by the EC's that you may pay at the gate, as could anyone else if they would like too! Just tell them that you are with the Hilux 4x4 Club!

Well even more reason for me to attend.

I am unsure whether my family will join (pregnant women are very unpredictable ....), but I am definitely attending. This will be my first official 4x4 track that I attend. Please feel free to advise and guide me accordingly as I have no wish to destroy my Hilux on my first outing. I have a two way radio (Kirisun) that is tuned to the offroad frequency. Must I bring it with?

PS: I will NEVER acknowledge that I made the statement above regarding pregnant women .....

Buwhahahahahaha I feel you on that disclaimer!

No worries, whether you bring you wife or not, we will make the day fun regardless!

And do not worry, we all started on our first outing somewhere! You will be in good hands with plenty of experience to show you the do's and dont's on a very good trail with ample opportunity to get to know your vehicle and test it's capabilities! The EC's are all experienced off-roaders with plenty of patience to help and assist where you would need it!

When you say you have a two way radio with "offroad frequency" do you mean it's tuned to the ORRA frequencies? If it is, then yes please bring it with as we will also be on those!

Yes I bought the radio from Eric, and although I do not need a license he advised me to make contact with Orra. I have sent them an email, but did not receive any reply from them as yet. Will send them another mail. He informed me that the radio is already programmed to Orra's frequency. Will bring it with.

Thanks! I have learnt in life that although I like a challenge and sometimes my kahoona's are bit too big, one needs the relevant experience first! So I have no intention of trying to impress anybody, but would rather take advise from everybody and in the process find what works for me and what not. So please feel free to advise and guide me?

Do we need to bring our own braai, or are there communal braai's that we can use?

ORRA had issues with their mailbox but that is sorted now as far as I know so maybe send them a mail again just incase your previous mail got nuked.

There will always be someone to lend a hand an point the correct route or shall I say the safe route. The correct route depends on how much you want to test yourself :)

Regarding the braais, they have a picnic type area with built in braais. So don't worry about the braai but for safety maybe bring your own "toeklaprooster" or tongs

There are braai areas, but you can bring your own "toeknyp rooster" (braai grid) if you'd like, though I will have one there as well.

We normally ask everyone to bring some wood, charcoal or blits and then we make fire, kuier and braai as we feel like.

LOL - or like Cassie said
