George Ross of the old NAC Landy Spares started the 1st event in 2004. It was held at his old Watervale Lodge at Inchanga. Since then Land Rover and Toyota have each won 3 events with Land Rover the current trophy holder. Last year we had 30 vehicles in the challenge and over 100 spectator vehicles. We select an equal number from each brand to run for the trophy. The Land Rover brand is well suported at the event each year with by far the largest number of any brand at the challenge, competitors and spectators.
The other "4x4 Vehicles" were introduced in a support class last year due to numerous requests to be part of the challenge. They drive the same obstacles but are not part of the team challenge. They compete against other support class vehicles and for the overall top points certificate.
Certificates are awarded for top 3 in each class plus a few others, Spirit Award for the day, Wally award for the clown of the event, Hard luck etc. Its a FUN event and everyone needs to remember that.
The certificates in my opinion are the most desirable certificates to win in 4x4 circles in KZN, just kidding.
