I see that too, and the details are a bit limited.

Can the Events Coordinator responsible for this event please add some more details, like time, meeting place, his contact details (email or phone if he's brave enough) and maybe a link to the thread on the forum (if there is one) to the calendar entry? That would make things a lot easier..

Ummm Gysie. A question please, picked this up in the article on the trail "The brothers who run the trail, Thys Hugo and Tobie Basson have added a steep descent that will challenge even the most experienced drivers." Is there an alternate route for that section, if I don't have sufficient experience to drive out? Don't want to have to be airlifted out of there in my Hilux if I freeze up...

I am confused, read the article about this trail and noticed something in the little icons that give us some info on the trail. How can this trail be a grade 4 and be 4x2 with diff lock friendly. :shifty:

Definitely 4x4 with low range, not 4x2... there are some steep uphill scrambles near the top that I doubt a 4x2(with diffloc) will be able to make... and yes a few sections are grade 4!

There may be a second route for 4x2's though...

I wouldn't go near this trail with a 4x2! That last rocky downhill is quite a challenge... I've only been driving a 4x4 for about 3 months having never driven one in my life before and I did Babylonstoren as my very first 4x4 trail ever, just 2 weeks after getting my Hilux. My friends all have automatics and limited 4x4 experience so couldn't even give me any advice on how to drive my manual so had to figure it all out on the day. I used my diff-lock on quite a few occasions but the Hilux never got stuck or damaged, even with my novice driving. I might add a snatch rope was used on a Jeep! Was a nice challenge, albeit a baptism of fire for a newbie and can't wait to go back again.

Hi

I see there's two dates and two threads for the same trip.

Which is the correct date? The Calender says Sunday the 29th . . .

Do we need to have radios as well? If not myself and a friend with a Isuzu would like to join.

Morning all,

I have confirmed with Babylonstoren - the track is ours for the day!

What you need to bring:
1. 1 x Hilux and Driver atleast
2. Standard Recovery gear
3. Food and Drink - There is a braai place but due to the size of the group we wont be braaing as the route can be long so we will stop at the outlook point and have lunch for 45min.
4. R 150 entrance fee
5. Good attitude please

Time and place:

7h30 - convoy leaves at 8h00 sharp so please dont leave your house at 8h00 because we would have left by then.

Place - corner of Klipheuwel road and the turn off to Malmesbury at the Silo's. Thys will post a map later today.

Here are the Google Maps co-ordiantes of the meeting place : -33.695852,18.706799 Paste that into the google search box and it will show you a map.

Alternatively here are some maps from a previous outing we had to BT...
