WC - Tierkloof - Day outing +/- 24 March 2012

Hi All,

We have a day outing planned for this Saterday. Please indicate who will be attending this event?

Nearest town: Rawsonville (8km)
Grading: 3-4

Route distance: 1 trail: 12 km | 3-4 hours
The trail: You'd be correct in expecting a steep rocky ascent and descent at Tierkloof, but the surprise sting in the tail is a soft sand challenge. Although the trail covers only 12km, there is plenty to keep off-road adventurers amused, starting with a rocky climb that will be a sweaty-palmed, white-knuckled experience for rookies and a challenge for seasoned campaigners. The fun begins almost immediately after you turn off the main road, with a 5km mountain ascent littered with huge boulders and a gap between looming rocks where marshalling is recommended. Your reward on reaching the Bloukop viewsite is a magnificent panorama over Brandvlei Dam towards Worcester. Klipspringers, baboons and black eagles were spotted, with leopard tracks providing evidence of nocturnal hunts. Taking another route down the mountain will confront you with a deep dive into a normally dry riverbed, some sandy sections and finally Tierkloof's sting in the tail, a daunting but safe climb in deep, soft sand that is impossible on normal road pressures. Only after deflating tyres to one bar did Drive Out's Prado manage the feat.
Camping: Basic camping with ablution facilities.
What else: Swimming and canoeing at Brandvlei Dam, Stettyn 4x4 Trail, Klipbokkop 4x4 Trail.

COST: R 100 per vehicle and R 20 per person. For those who wish to camp - there is warm water and electricity. R 50 per site.

Please could we finalize this by Thursday.

I can also vouch for this trail, quite technical in places, loose marble, and some steep ascents and descents !!! but a great trial, I also camped there last time for 2 nights and its peaceful (well Boetie was with me !! :roll: ), quiet and safe, very basic but hot showers, running water, etc, nice just to chill...just go fully equipped as its abit of a schlep back to the shops in Rawsonville......

Unfortunately I wont be able to make, dont have a vehicle yet plus I have work commitments on Saturday morning but you guys will have a blast....

I did the trail 3 weeks ago for the first time and some of the guys mentioned that is was little bit more difficult than the previous time.

So lots of fun will be had by anyone who joins in! Highly recommended.

P.S a landy and an isuzu broke down on the trail that day

Hi guys

Is this thread dead?

Want to combine the 4x4 trip (if it is still happening), with a fishing weekend with some friends at the dam.

Anyone know of any good camp sites around the dam? (Right next to the edge of the dam)

OK. Lyk my Nekkies is uitgebook vir die Swallows Biker Rally.

So ons gaan by Tierkloof self kamp en sommer daar ook vis vang. Klaar met Willim gepraat. Hy gaan ons sleutel vir die hek gee om in te kom by dam.

No no. We'll be camping there with you. But like I said. It's a couple of us guys camping, fishing and 4x4ing that weekend. 3 of us so far. Waiting to hear on nr 4 . . .

Stephan nou is ek deurmekaar, praat julle van n mans visvang naweek... of n 4x4 roete dag/naweek.. Het nie n probleem met visvang nie maar will definitief nie by n mans visvang naweek betrokke wees nie... Is die dam by Tierkloof of gaan jy n jou mans vriende by a dam erens kamp en die Saterdag die roete ry?

Het gedink ons Feb 4x4 dag is geskuif, en dat daar n groepie gaan wees wat die dag die roete ry en van die mense wat die naweek wil kamp... Dink Gysie is maar besig met sy werk ek bedoel.. ons werk.. so as dit nie so gereel is nie bly ek die naweek by die huis..

My en my vriende se visvang naweek het niks met die Tertius/Ciske se 4x4 trip uit te waai nie, alhoewel dit my lyk of ons by die selfde plek gaan kamp. Tertius probeer mense organise, maar lyk my nie veel mense stel belang nie . . .

Ons gaan julle wel die saterdag oggend join vir die 4x4 roete.

for those who are confused - this is the 4x4 day trip - I asked Tersius to run the show for me as I have family responsibilities that weekend and won't be able to attend.

ek is anyway daar, i just want to confirm with Marianna if there is more people coming. We will be camping there with some friends etc. So if there is still people who want to com for the day weekend they must just let me know so i can find out if there is still camp sites available. for the 4x4 trip i'm sure there is no problem. we can arrange that quick quick wit the owners.
but let me know, always better to know what is happening in advance.
