Babylon's Toren - WC outing Date TBC

Hi there guys

We are looking at having out next outing to Babylo's Toren just outside Malmesbury sometime soon.

Babylons Toren is a very nice scenic trail with some serious up's and down's which can be pretty slippery when wet. The trail goes up and down a few hills and on each hilltop there is a "playground" of sorts. Wit cross-axles, teeter-totters, pole bridges and opposite cambers. There is a serious rocky section and the trail ends with a BANG down a steep rocky downhill section where you will experience huge adrenalin rushes. Ask guys like Gysie, Gifkoek and GI Jane what that felt like. There are some zebras, eland and other antelope species on the farm, as well as spectacular views of the Swartland and surrounds.

Hoppy attempted it in the uphill direction, and made it with Luxter, but that is only recommended for people with purpose built vehicles, and big brass cahoonas.

After the trail we can ask to use the lapa at the bungalows to have a braai.

I know of a few guys who expressed interest so here goes our first attempt at an attendance register:

We have to finalise a date still, but my suggestion was around the 13th/20th of July.... What does that sound like?? We have to take the weather into account as the trail owners will close it down if it rains. Or at least they used to in the past.

Eben daar is 2 chalets. As jy hulle boek kan ons die lapa gebruik vir die braai na die tyd. Hulle pryse is nie te dronk nie..

Bumper vlenters , een lig stukkend en een fender gebuig.
Versekering het eis dadelik goedgekeur en nou staan my trokkie by Burnco.
Lyk my die laaste mod wat ek wou doen gaan dalk nou so bietjie goedkoper uitwerk.

Weet net nie of hy teen Vrydag gaan reg wees nie ! :?

I have some tragiese nuus of my own. Due to some extra-ordinary work pressure I wont be able to attend this event, and also my week is going to be exceptionally hectic.

In the absence of other Event's Coordinators willing or able to take over the arrangements, I am going to leave it up to the group to do the arrangements, or either to cancel the event.

hey guys,

I just spoke to the trail owner - apparently the route is impossible if it's rained beforehand, and yr.no predicts rain for Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning.

So I guess the prudent course of action is to postpone, as much as I would have loved to do this.

Any other suggestions perhaps? There is Helderberg near Somerset West, although that's "only" a grade 2 - they apparently close the grade 4 sections if it's wet.

ok guys, helderberg is of course also weather dependent. I will check in with the owner late this week and let you know on Saturday morning what the deal is.

Start time: 9am at Heldergberg Farm.
Cost: I seem to recall around R150/vehicle

There is a space to braai, although I won't be able to stay for very long afterwards.
