FORCED CLOSURE OF KPH IN CORLETT DRIVE

Post by WayneSchalk »

Closure of Kitty and Puppy Haven could see 200 of Jo’burg’s pets being euthanized Johannesburg, 07 December 2012 – The forced closure of Kitty and Puppy Haven, after 12 years, in Alexander could see up to 200 cats and dogs being euthanized in the next 7 weeks. Acting as a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing centre for injured, neglected, traumatised and mistreated cats and dogs, Kitty and Puppy Haven has helped 3000 animals annually. It is a non-profit organisation operating from a private residential area in Alexander. After 6 years of applications regarding the re-zoning on their property, they were recently provided with permission to run the community clinic. However, recently the court advised that the agreement was null and void due to technicalities. After the final court hearing today, Kitty and Puppy Haven has been ordered to remove all dogs and puppies from the property by 31 January 2013. In addition all cats and kittens have to be removed off the property by 15 February 2013, or have all the animals euthanized, and the current premises have to be closed on that date as well. Samantha Berger, Founder of the centre, is devastated by the news and calls on the Johannesburg public to save as many animals as possible. “It is that time of the year when we look to celebrate with our families and family pets. To know that if we do not find alternative arrangements in the next two weeks, we will have to put down all these innocent animals is heart-breaking. I can only ask that all pet-loving South Africans come through to the centre to consider taking on a new pet,” says Berger. The impact of this ruling affects far more than just the animals at the sanctuary. All Alex residents who make use of the community clinic will no longer have access to the services of the Kitty and Puppy Haven vet. Furthermore, Kitty and Puppy Haven will be unable to continue running whilst they make alternative arrangements, which mean the thousands of animals who are dumped or abandoned during this festive season, will no longer be able to come to the sanctuary and will probably end up dead. Over the past 12 years approximately 11000 animals have been helped by Kitty and Puppy Haven with numbers growing steadily every year. If alternative arrangements cannot be made, not only will thousands of animals suffer, but 16 staff members that have dedicated their lives to animal welfare, will be homeless and unemployed! Despite the terrible news, Berger remains optimistic, “We are appealing to the public and corporates to rally behind us and offer enough financial help so that we can find a new property and move all our animals to safety by the time the sanctuary is forced to close. If we do not receive this help the drastic alternative is too devastating to comprehend.” - Ends - Kitty & Puppy Haven Tel: 011 440 9486 / 011 440 2404 / 011 786 1732 Fax-to-email: 086 766 4149 Mobile: 083 387-1012 (emergency) Address: 271 Corlett Drive, Kew Website: http://www.kittypuppyhaven.org.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; eMail: info@kittyhaven.co.za

Just an update, and I don't mean to be negative

My wife Angela took a drive over to this place on Saturday with our Jack Russel , named Rusty, to go look at a possible adoption, the 2 got along just fine.

But the lady that helped Angela was more interested in telling Angela off about Rusty not being "snipped" and the reasons why NOT to adopt than actual getting this dog a home.

I know they have to do their checks and what not, but if you are in a situation like this, you except help.
