WRONG H
I hate those critters, you'd not catch me hanging around long enough to take a pic.

Re: Spider
Looks like one of the Solifugae?
Solifugae
From Wikipedia,
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Arachnida
Subclass: Dromopoda
Order: Solifugae
Sundevall, 1833
Solifugae is an order of Arachnida, known as camel spiders, wind scorpions or sun spiders, comprising more than 1,000 described species in about 153 genera. They may grow to a length of 7 cm (2.8 in), and have a body comprising an opisthosoma (abdomen) and a prosoma (head) with conspicuously large chelicerae, which are also used for stridulation. Most species live in deserts and feed opportunistically on ground-dwelling arthropods and other animals. A number of urban legends exaggerate the size and speed of Solifugae, and their potential danger to humans

Re: Spider
I had one of those little bastards crawl across my face when I live in Augrabies.
I was dozing (hungover one morning) and felt a thing on my cheek. I casually swiped it away without giving it a second thought. A half a second later I realised what had just happened, leapt out of bed, turned on the light and saw a monster Solifuge scurrying away from the light.
Instant hangover cure.

Re: Spider
Jona, I've seen them look like that picture you've just posted.
Thanks Warren, I've never seen that colouration.

Re: Spider
Commonly known in South Africa as "Roman spinnekop".
A camel spider, which is also in the class Arachnida with spiders interestingly enough, is not a spider at all. A camel spider is actually a solpugid, and there are about 900 species of them known to date.

Like all arachnids, the Solifugids have eight legs, and their body is in two parts, a 'prosoma' equivalent to a thorax and an 'opisthosoma' or abdomen. Like scorpions, but unlike spiders, Solifugids have no narrow waste or 'pedicel'.

Re: Spider
Ek vermoed hy kon baie vinnig beweeg. Dit lyk na n jong Roman/ Haarskeerder/ Ja(a)gspinnekop. Dis n baie mooi foto.
