Kruger Park prepares for more floods
2012-03-02 16:51

Cape Town - The Kruger National Park issued a warning on Friday about possible floods and said that it had already started evacuating one campsite.

This comes following a warning from the SA Weather Service (Saws) about a tropical cyclone possibly hitting KwaZulu-Natal.

Sanparks said it has now started taking precautionary measures in the Kruger National Park following the Saws warning.

Sanparks spokesperson Reynold Thakuli told News24 that the park had a "comprehensive disaster plan" and will be concentrating on the park's southern region.

The heavy rains are expected to hit either on Saturday or more likely Sunday but park officials have already contacted Mpumalanga disaster management and the SA National Defence Force.

"We've already started evacuating Biyamati campsite as a precautionary measure," Thakuli said.
He could not say how many people were being evacuated.

Letaba, Makhadzi and Nhlanguleni picnic spots have all been closed while Muzandzeni, Mlondozi, Timbavati, Lake Panic Birdhide, Nwanetsi and Afsaal are still open.

For more information read the SANParks statement here.
Park visitors can also contact Joep Stevens on 082 802 8093 or Thakuli on 0733734999 with any queries

Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

I spoke to my sister who lives on a farm between Malelane and Komatipoort, She said they only had a little rain on Saturday evening and that was it.
