Community work
I thought long and hard for a proper description to this topic, as an Afrikaans booytjie from the East Rand this is the best I could come up with
We have come to realise that we need a reason - or purpose - to go out there and get the cobbwebs off the low range gearbox :problem: doing trails for the sake of doing it just does not do it for us any more, and with a son in his last year of school we will not survive on school holiday's only!
This made me think, anyone on this forum - and I have searched with no results!- that are aware of groups / organisations, etc where one could volunteer your 4x4, etc for a good cause. Some years ago a collegue of mine belonged to a group called "the friends of the Nile" or someting like that. They would go out to Limpopo on a regular basis and get involved in the removal of alien vegetation, etc in the river. This sounds like the type of thing that I would like to get involved with - the details however I have no clue about
The above would give us a reason to pack the bakkie and get out there - at least for the weekend trips.
I would love to hear from fellow forum members should they know of any such "opportunities" - or even just if you think I am off the track...
Cheers

Bakgat idee

Re: Community work
A few of the game reserves do have similar programs through their honory rangers programs. Some years ago a reserve we were involved in had a program of the 4x4 fellows doing fence patrols but managing vollunteers as well as the variety of management and control issues made them drop the idea.
I have also come accross folk who band together and then head off to do community work in far remote villages and again this does take time to get accepted by the village and then to put in a assistance program that is sustainable. often this is around maintenance of clinics, schools etc............ collecting school materials / books etc. During our travels we find so often that the corporations look after the "politically snsitive / correct" areas that are close to their main workforce and thus it is these distant communities that are forgotten and often appreciated the most.
Service clubs, church groups.........
Dont give up in the least, look around there are projects available and you may end up travelling along a forgotton road in a beautiful area........not serious 4x4 but just as rewarding.....BUT it is a commitment and when the bug bites..........it can consume you.

Re: Community work
Some years ago a reserve we were involved in had a program of the 4x4 fellows doing fence patrols but managing vollunteers

I read an article in Dec WegRy about the WC Landcruiser club that does regular outings to West Coast...Their "thing" is to clean up the beaches along the west coast....They even have members from up North that join them!

Re: Community work
