Fire in the HHH mountains over the weekend:WC

Post by Niel »

This is the pics of the recent fire in the Jonkershoek/Somerset West area that re-started on Sunday afternoon. The pictures were taken from a abought 25 km (if not more) away.

Anyone have better pics of the fire?

jeesh, that is some braai that oke's got going :D:

but we were hit by some nasty fires recently, but nothing compared to Australia.
Was it something like 200+ people killed. This is the first time I have heard of so many death due to veld fires
Apparently people could not outrun the fire as it was moving so fast.

I feel that if they catch a guy who start or course these fires he should be charged with attempted murder and put away for life.

Ja Shaakir just this morning the car in front of me tossed a stompie out the window and I though how on earth can you be so DOF. Here we see around us what happens if you do that and still people do it.

I think, and I may be wrong, is that you can go and 'kla aan' people throwing stompies out of their car in Cape Town? Or is it the Western Cape.

Good idea but like all laws in this country, how do you enforce it? How do you prove that the person did it?

As we were driving thru the Somerset West area this afternoon a small portion of the fire started up again and I must say I could see only a small burn area on both sides of the mountain.

Sal later post.

the cars in the garage was covered in fine ash yesterday morning. Could it be from the fires?
I'm in Goodwood. Could it carry so far, with the strong SE we had yesterday?

We woke up to a really strong smell of smoke and ash was falling in the garden.

Downtown Cape Town was a fog with smoke and the colour of the rising sun was an amazing orangey red  :o:

The fire burned heavily two days ago and it burned in 4 different places. Last night there were only 3 areas where it still burned that I could see. I will add some pics later. I was thinking how many animals were burned in this devastating fire not even talking loss of income ………. caused by this fire.

I was told that this fire might have been started deliberately, does anyone know?

This fire is still burning high up in the mountains heading for Du Toits Kloof. At 01:30 this morning these were 6 different places burning in the Paarlberg area.

I hope that they get the fire under control soon as the HHH fire is burning for 3 weeks now. The Cape veld is very dry and the fire can easily jump again. I just wonder what this will all cost us at the end of the day and haw many animals perished in these fires?

I will post some pics later
