anyone visited bella vista moz, small town in the baie do maputo (bay off maputo) it's on the estuary of the maputo river which in SA is the pongola river, we want to explore the river estuary (mangrove swamp) with a small boat, we know santa maria and the gap but think staying at bella vista will be easier, apparently most of maputo's prawns come from this area if you know the place give us a shout

Ons het net daar deur gery in April 2011 van Ponta af Maputo toe. Die pad is sleg maar ry baar. Dit het ons 3ure gevat om die 90 something km te ry. Daar is petrol beskikbaar gewees toe en soos enige dorpie sal mens die basiese goedere kry in die spaza winkel. Die brug oor die rivier is ook sterk genoeg om trokke te hanteer, sien foto.

Was julle reeds daar? Enige terug voer op die trip wat julle beplan het?

hello Tjaart, thanks for the reply we are planning to go back to santa maria in july and explore the swamps from that side. a pal of ours checked bella vista out says its a s$@&t hole with no camp sites etc and the river is polluted around the town. they timed their trip for the spring tides and had 5 hours of deep water every day in the mangroves, fishing was good but plenty of locals with nets. we plan to stay at ponta tores and hopefully find our guide Jose' an old fella who worked in SA knows how to cook crabs and calamari like you have never tasted. don't miss a chance to visit the gap (santa maria) it is as good as any where in moz and never crowded cheers deane
