Must have's and must not have's

Post by CasKru »

Hi All,

Brand new to the forum. Love all the articles and info on the forum. :D :D :D

I would like to know what you guys believe to be must haves and what not to have (including gadgets and gizmos): :?: :?:

Currently my setup is as follows:
'94 2.4P D/C 4x4 SFA
Ironman Suspension
Safari Snorkel
Gearmax Diff-Loc at the back
Original Bullbar, running boards, towbar and rollover bar
Added branch on the engin with S/Steel exhaust

That's about it.

Welcome Cassie,

Not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere on the forum, but quite right ... "He who dies with the most toy's ... WINS" is not always true.
This question will receive many answers & advice, take them all, take the average, minus 200, + 5, divide then by 10 & that is what you will need.
Apply the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid).

You have already made the most important purchase ... "'94 2.4P D/C 4x4 SFA".
The rest, ... Ironman Suspension, Safari Snorkel, Gearmax Diff-Loc at the back, Original Bullbar, running boards, towbar and rollover bar & branch
is more than enough for now.

Now, ... go & play carefully & get to know your vehicle !

ENJOY, have FUN, but TREAD LIGHTLY & be SAFE.

Thanks Joe,

I like the equation. Will need a calculator to calculate it though. :)

The vehicle is an absolute joy as is and have been playing nicely (and my favorite, recovered a view landies). Just thought I might be missing out on some stuff which makes life even more fun.

Why, that's easy! I sell two-way radios and also Garmin GPS, so you *definitely* need both of these items, nothing else! Pappa Joe's equation doesn't count for these two essential safety items...

Just kidding... you already have a nice collection of goodies and the Hilux is a pretty potent vehicle as it is, in standard form even. You might want to investigate a Long Range Fuel tank some time in the future if you wish to go overlanding with the Hilux. What size tryes do you have?

Thanks Neil, already enjoing thr stay.

Dylan, Already learnt alot reading through the articles. First one I need to do is the break fix. Have to wait till next weekend as I'm going to Roossenekal this weekend to go and play.

Eric, I most certainly need to speak to you as well. I was contemplating buying a GPS soon and have been searching for the best/nicest one. I was thinking of buying the Garmap 60CSx or 76CSx.

I forgot to add, it's already fitted with a long range tank (lucky for me, unlucky for my garage card). I'm not sure on the size of the tyres though. I think it's 245's. As soon as these are finished I want to put a set of Coopers on the bakkie.

Alle Bloubul bybehore help baie in meeste situasies.

Are you sure it is not your rimms? Alternatively let them re-bead the tyres, sometimes they do not go on properly when the bead them.

My Conti World Contacts are perfectly balanced on my mags, but especially on steel rims I have seen guys struggling to get the tyres balanced properly, and then taking it somewhere else they fix the problem. I had similar problems with my work bakkie years ago and the problem was sorted taking it to a different fitment place.

Hi Cassie, Welcome.

I bought new rims (Guestro Pro whites) from the factory and had a run-out of 1.5 mm on one rim. The normal allowable tolerance on a steel rim is 1mm.

I had ContiTrac AT's on my old rims and now Conti WorldContact 265/75R15's on the new rims.
You should check what machine they are balanced on. I agree with Bennie this make a big
difference, and also depends on the skill of the guy using the machine.

If you need to be sure what the problem is, contact the Continental Tyre Field Service branch in JHB. They have just moved to near the OR Tambo airport.

Ask for Glen Fouche. He has a Hunter Machine that is excellent.

Hilux - Eerste probeerslag (hoe anders)

So bietjie useless informasie
