Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
Advice needed please,
I am considering to change the stock std tyres on my KZTE D/C4x4 to the 30x10.5R15. (Currently with 265 x 70 R15). (I hope I have all the numbers correct) My tyre of choice the BG Goodrich
PRo's and cons please?
Regards

BFG is not bad, but why not go 31" in stead of 30"?

I agree with Thys!! Also the 30" Tyre is about the same size as a 245/75R15 tyre. The 31 " tyre is slightly bigger than the 265 tyre, but very little difference in size!!ThysdJ wrote:BFG is not bad, but why not go 31" in stead of 30"?
Go 31" BFG AT's. They fit without any problems on a Standard KZTE.

That is one very dirty looking lux ( I hope you were having fun at the time)
I would also put the 31" on, it will also correct your speedo and make it more acurate as well.

Re: Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
do you intend using 7jj rims or 7 j ? The 7j rim might give you a bit of a tyre rub on the black plastic in the wheel arch if fitting 31"

Re: Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
Thanks all for the comments, and yes, I had the numbers wrong. The "slightly higher" profile is the 31 - the one I had in my mind.
Neil, I have a 2005 Legend KZTE - not sure if the rim is a 7JJ or 7J. But as they say, "die koeel is deur die kerk" - had them fitted late yesterday. The old tyres were not looked after by the previous owner and badly worn. Made h..l of a noize on tar and I decided this is it!
The tyre is very close to the back end of the arch when fully turned. It seems to be fine though.
Now I sit with a new Bridgestone AT 265 70 R15 (Never on the road - was the spare) and two of the previous shaped Toyota Raider mag. rims. (See my add).
Anybody need a sixth wheelset?
Regards

Re: Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
Jaco, if it is the ones in the pic above then they are 7jj and the damaged ones mentioned in your add from 99 (afaik) is 7j.

Re: Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
Warrenaken, I just bought BFG 31x10.5x15 AT for my 2003 DC KZTE and they rub on inner control arm a little bit when making a full turn in the front. Also on the black plastic behind the front wheel. Do yours rub at all? Someone suggested spacers, but not sure about this.

Re: Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
Hi Todd,
I don’t have any problems at the moment, before these tires i had the scorpions on (same size) and the control arms have a shiny spot on them. A short while after fitting the tires i went on a 4x4 track and found i was catching the wheels arch when turning and articulating at the same time. I took it in to get looked at and this is what i was told. (maybe someone can confirm) The alignment places have a std program for doing your hilux, when you change your tires and shocks, this program is not corrected for the changes you made. SO what i was told was send it to someone who knows what they doing, and what they do is "move" the front wheels forward. Had this done and i have had no problem since, been to overlanding through Bots with some serious off-roading and still fine. I will try find out where and who the guy who did mine was.
Hope it helps a bit.

Re: Slightly higher profile tyres for KZTE
There is no difference in rim width and hight between a 7Jx15 and a 7JJx15 rim, both are 7 inches wide and 15 inches in diameter, if the offset on both are the same you will not see any difference as the distance from the hub will also be the same.
"JJ" refers to the shape of the wheel's flange (lip which holds the bead of the tire).
JJ = 18.0mm high x 13.0mm wide, with a 13.0mm radius
J = 17.5mm high x 13.0mm wide, with a 9.0mm radius
The JJ rims are supposed to be better for 4x4 ing as the tyre is not supposed to debead as easy as on a J
