No matter how much we might not enjoy the game. The biggest sporting event in the world is currently in our country.

The reviews for our country (including the robbed journalists) has been brilliant in the overseas media.

I might not be watching the games with great emotion or enthusiasm, but I am proud of what is happening in our country. Again proving that great things can happen hear.

Heinrich, I fully agree!
We had our moment of glory when we presented (and won!! :D: ) the Rugby World Cup in '95; I joined my fellow South Africans to celebrate another piece of African and South African history in the making!! (I am realistic though ito our chances of taking the coveted trophy :?: )
I also hope and pray that our beautiful country and all its people will benefit from this major event ito developing greater understanding, tolerance and respect for each others cultures and preferences!

As an outspoken World Cup 2010 sceptic, expecting chaos and mediocrity, I am pleasantly surprised, and the groundswell of patriotism with people proudly displaying flags and other SA related paraphenalia, can only be good for nationbuilding. Well done SA!!

I am just relieved that no vuvuzelas found their way into Newlands yesterday with the Bokke/France test.

I am skeptic about SA's chance of winning the cup.

As far as I know musical instruments are not allowed at IRB tests. Reason is players need to hear line out calls.

I wasn't too over-excited about us hosting the event either, I am not a soccer fan and pictured all sorts of hooliganism to take place amongst uncontrolled crowds. But it was a real eye-opener watching the opening match and I must say I was cheering all the way for BB, who put up a magnificent performance against very high odds. For them to draw against the 17th-ranked team was an incredible achievement and because of this, I will be watching their progress with great enthusiasm. They were so close to actually winning that game too! It was great seeing the high level of support and enjoyment from the SA fans as well, of all races! And incredibly, Julius has not managed to break this level of 'togetherness' yet!

Well done, boys!

I'm certainly not a soccer fan, but I do have national pride. My fear was that BB would be a total embarrassment, but was pleasantly surprised. As Cassie said .... biggest sporting event in the world, and being held on our shores makes it a completely new experience for us ... not even the rugby world cup comes close. As Thys said, the spirit on the streets is amazing, so I took my national pride out of my pocket and got a vuvu with national colours and have a RSA flag on the work bakkie. Not much, but at least I'm not negative about it.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Not yet at the level of wanting to fit an SA flag to my car, or those sock things over my rear view mirrors.

But I am going to try and watch each Bafana game.

The traffic on Friday afternoon was amazing. It took me 21 minutes from my own office inside the building till I was standing in my brother in law's house in Alberton.
