What will you pay for this Hilux?
Hi guys and girls. I have been a Toyota driver for many years and have been looking for a Hilux to suit my needs and pocket. It will be my primary vehicle and I cover about 10 000 kms per year. I have no kids so its just my wife and the dog. Ha ha... If i let them tag along.
So i have been looking for a bakkie for some time and have an option to buy a 2008 single cab hilux raider 2.7 vvti with canopy. It has 35 000 kms on the clock and looks very neat. Seller wants R175 000. Do you think this is too much?
It has FSH at Toyota.

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
Seems a bit high to me... I got R95k for a 2007 2.7vvti with canopy but with 145000km on the clock. Toyota offered R77k if i remember correctly. I think 150 would be reasonable with that low km's...

It sounds like a good deal, not 100% sure about the price but it sounds good with very low mileage. any photo's?

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
The kilos are very good. Almost too good? Did you look at the wear on the clutch and brake pedals etc? Did you see a service history? Having said that I have always had the policy to pay a little more than average if I find a really clean second hand vehicle and I have never regretted that.

In 2008 there was a facelift. The pre facelift 4x4 trades for R103 400 and retails for R121 000. The 4x2 R82 100 and R97 600. The facelift 4x2 R118 000 and R140 000. The value of the canopy needs to be added.

Naa, don't add the value of the canopy, you will not get that back if you sell it again?

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
Thanks for the input thus far. I checked with Toyota today and they confirm mileage legit and on par with km travelled between services. All services done at Toyota - so is this a guarantee I wonder? The vehicle is clean and neat. The engine looks almost new on the outside. Even the belts and pulleys look new. No apparent gravel road dust evident on the undercarriage and wheel wells. The loading bin is unlined and has no rust, but has loaded a few cans of paint and light building equipment.
While driving it it noticed no pull or vibration on the steering wheel and the engine pulled nicely through the revs. There was even a little wheel spin by accident when a did a 180 degree turn on a busy main road.
I feel it is probably R10 - 15 000 over priced and i am not likely to get a close to this price if i should sell in 1 to 5 years time. However in my opinion, there are not many neat Hilux with low mileage that are in my price range of R180 k or less.
So what do you, valued members of our forum say? Should i buy it or not?

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
If the kilos is for real I would say go for it, it is as good as new and what new bakkie will you buy today for that money.
Try to offer him R10k less that what he wants and I would say it is a good deal, especially if you want to keep it long term.

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
Just remember this is not the same motor as the 3rz-fe. I would rather look at the 4l V6.Lots of power same fuel consumption

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
A vehicle is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
If you pay way over book make very sure it is the right vehicle for you(single/double cab, 4x2 or 4x4, pertol or diesel AND engine type and capacity. Bring fuel consumption into your calculations) as if you need to sell on few years time youwill loose big time.
If you are happy with everythong then go for it!

Re: What will you pay for this Hilux?
At the auctions a good hilux are going above book and sometimes even retail so I asked one of the second hand dealers and he said he sells them above retail in a lot of cases.
