Saving fuel or not really?
Saving petrol is what I have in mind. So to do so I have been driving my wife's car instead of my v6 Vigo. But I have noticed when I fill her up lately that my fuel consumption is a lot higher. A lot!
My question is why, im I loosing fuel if the lux is just standing for a week or what can the reason be?

Re: Saving fuel or not really?
I imagine that if you were losing fuel in any significant amount you would smell it, especially if the vehicle is in a garage - check for sweating or tell-tale reddish deposits underneath around the tank, pump and fuel lines.
If the tank is under pressure (normal fuel evaporation in the tank) the breather in the cap is probably blocked and that could cause it to drip into the manifold at a 'leaky' injector. In that case you would pick up that your engine oil is very thin, smells of fuel and perhaps even getting higher on the dipstick over time if it's really bad.

From 2001 to 2008 I commuted by bike, and my bakkie did 2 to 3 months on a tank of fuel - HEAVY fuel consumption !!
Do a trip, and the km/l is DRASTICALLY better than when it just stands in the garage.
and this was on a new vehicle, no leaking pipes or funny stuff.

Hehe julle manne is funny.
I got more info and it's something to do with the sensors. Doesn't really make sense to me.
If I drive the beast I get 7.5km/L but let it stand I get 5.6km/L

Re: Saving fuel or not really?
Miskien verdamp die petrol?
If you say you let it stand, for how long, a week, month, ..?
Somebody once told me if you let your car stand for long, let it stand with a full tank. Helps to prevent corrosion and vapouri..... ek bedoel verdamping.

Ek het ook begin dink dit verdamp juis omdat dit n vol tenk is. Staan nie lank nie. So n week tussen trips.

Dis baie interresant! Hoe langer ek in die stad ry hoe swaarder raak my sous verbruik! Laat waai so vir 600km, en die stad se gebruik is sommer beter as gemiddeld. Wel ek het die dieseltjie.
