150 000km service price

Post by Juan21 »

Has anyone done the 150km service and the water pump? What did it cost at Toyota?

Dealer wants 8800 rand. But I dont want just anybody to do the service as it includes the timing belt, but 8800 is a lot...

Hi Juan.

That sounds like allot to me too.. Hoppy and Francois here in CA did my timing chain for me for R1100 with genuine toyota chain. My dad(a mechanic) and I then serviced it at 180 000km but it was just really really simple with my SFA. Just spark plugs, filters, oil and brake fluid. All that came to under R1000. Not sure what else they might do at 150k service.. They should check the breaks but will only quote you on replacement when they find a problem.

What year and type lux do you have? If its still under warrantee you dont have a choice but to yake to them or your warrantee is cancelled.

Sorry should have put that info in...
2006 3L d4d 4x4.

When it comes to the timing belt, I don't want to take a chance... Heard too many stories, which cost the engine.
It's out of warranty. But R8800 is a lot a cash for a service. Major (120 000km) before this was just under R4000 which I found acceptable for the amount of work done.

Why do you want to replace the waterpump? Is it leaking?

Replacing the timing belt, tensioner and tensioner pulley is very simple, quick and easy on your bakkie. The waterpump is a bigger issue. See here. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25132

Yes the water pump has been leaking since 120km but not that bad. So I have left it till 150km because i though that it will only be a extra four bolts once the timing belt is off to get the water pump out. discount on labour, but no still charging for labour.

Does anyone know of a Toyota dealer that will be cheaper?

Due to that price is why if you look at most Fortuners or Hilux D4D models up for sale there Kms are always just under 150kms cause the previous owners think HELL NO its upgrade or downgrade time.I was lucky I bought my Hilux on 151kms(I have the receipts of +-10k cause service was done and battery replaced).

I would not recomend changing the belt yourself but maybe the oil and maybe save R1000 there. You can probably search forum for oil types etc. Sparks are easy just need to borrow slip gauges from someone.. and then ask them to give you a hand as they probably know how to work on cars if they have those tools..

Changing brake fluid is also easy. Just need a mate to help you. You should put the quote on the forum so we can see exactly they have listed to do and what they charge for each item.

Does the 2006 have an on board computer etc? They use to want to charge an arm to run a diagnostic for me on my old car.

If its got an OC I would ask them about possibly extending the factory warrantee and service plan. VW use to offer that even if there was a year or 2 after it ended. Just so long as you have FSH. Then you make a once off payment and no worries after that except for general wear and tear items. tyres, whipers, brakes etc but you can ask them more or less when you can expect them to wear out so it wont be a surprise like this quote. It will be more than the 9k but the peace of mind that comes with it.. They eventually found my problem to be wiring and didnt charge me a thing.. They replaced starter and re wired entire car for free..
