That front looks VEEEERY cool, let's hope the rest is a bit more sexy too.
The other stables are mopping the floor with good looking cars, Toyota seemed not to be bothered with building good looking cars in the last few years. Even the 86 is rather bland after the 3rd time you see one.

All I can hope for is that the new Toyota's drive the prices into a more realistic levels so I can eventually buy a D4D. . .

Good times!

going to take more than yet another new bumper and bonnet design .... :(

The current base level Ranger is just so much better than the Hilux.

Then get in the Amarok and you realise just HOW far behind the Lux is !!!!!!

As ek more moet koop is dit beslis NIE Hilux nie ....

Dit mag dalk so wees, maar dit beteken Ford of Amarok gaan nog papper wees as die Hilux. n Friend van my is n mechanic by n groot trok mkpy, hulle ry nuwe Ford bakkies met n alu canopy en bietjie tools, gaan kyk hoe kraak daai bakke, ek kon dit nie glo toe ek dit met my eie oge sien nie.

just a quick insight on the ford/toyota saga, I'm itching for a new bakkie and recently did a 6 day photo shoot for Sappi forestry that included 3 different forestry offices. they recently got a massive deal for renting Ford ranger bakkies, they used to be fully fleeted with toyota hilux bakkies, with the price difference between the ford and the toyota the ford really sounds like a sweet deal and very attractive for the buyer. but now, Foresters spend their entire days on dirt road and put their bakes to the test, especially in fire season when they get into situations where their bakkies just need to perform, carrying heavy firefighter loads daily and so forth.

so i decided to ask them all the same question, how do they feel about the ford bakkies? and not a single one(of 10 different foresters) had anything good to say about the ford. they all wish they had their toyotas back, they used to buy their toyota bakkies (3l d4d vigor) from sappi after their operational term was over for a good price, they say they would never do it with the fords. they break something in 8000km increments where they say the toyota had almost no problems. the rear load, although rated to 1 tonne on the ford also cannot take the load and they say that the bake fire fighters bend their springs. so you can say what you want about the blandness of toyota, if its reliability you want its the only option, 2nd being isuzu apparently.

As a workhorse the Hilux is unstoppable, just wish they become more exciting to look at as well.

Was fortunate enough to be at a friends house with some mates.
Ranger, Amarok, And Isuzu in the driveway. Not one Hilux except my old SFA.

All of them were saying how they would rather have each others bakkie,
not one said they wanted the Hilux.

They said that they don't like outdated agricultural equipment.

I asked what bakkie they would have if it was not for their own and they all said my SFA.
Makes one think.

My opinion: Ford is a good example of how NOT to do it.
They were in a big rush to grab a bigger slice of the pie, they pushed the Ranger out without due quality testing, they are flooding the market by selling at massive discounts, discounting large contracts for govt and large pvt concers like Sven mentioned at Sappi.
Now market is filled with these vehicles, but at some stage those vehicles are no longer under factory warantee, so if you pop something expensive it is YOUR problem, no longer Ford's problem.
Which means somewhere along the line your 2ndhand dealers are going to find their floors filled with Rangers which no-one wants because no-one wants the risk...
And then the bottom will fall out for Ford. This will do their reputation much more harm than good. Wait for those ou-of-warranty Fords, and see their prices drop.

My point here is not to bash the Rangers, because if they had been built by Toyota I'd mortage the house to lay my hands on one.

My point here is that Toyota has a reputation. If they can keep that reputation safe by bringing the new model out only in 2016, after ensuring quality, then they must do so.

I'd be really ticked off if we have to wait that long though and the new Hilux turns out to be ugly and rubbish... Hehehe.
I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.

The engine line up will be the deciding factor - like me there are a lot of people out there that doesnt care about the name or badge.
AFAIK the 3.2 Rangers up in Gauteng are being sold detuned now - a lot of Ranger owners admitted this on the other forum.
The first generation Amarok made a big entry in the market - and after a few years have sorted most of the niggles.
If Toyota doesnt step up in a big way the next gen Amarok is going to take serious market share.
