Yes... another Post Office strike

Post by Mr_B »

Looks like happy days are here again...

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/governmen ... again.html

Did they manage to clear the backlog created by the previous strike(s)? With the private sector taking up the slack created by these SAPO strikes, you've got to ask... is SAPO still needed?

I do feel for the staff and understand their frustration leading to the strike. I certainly wouldn't be happy if my salary wasn't paid(on time), or only 70% of it is paid. Guess we'll be seeing yet another state owner enterprise bail out!

They are getting paid late and getting under paid BECAUSE OF THE LAST STRIKE! The post office nether recovered after the damage caused during the last strike. Now they think it is a good idea to repeat the thing that caused their problem in the first place.

How stupid can you be?

I wonder if they will understand the basic concept if they do not have jobs no more and get paid 0% of their salaries.

bear in mind the original strike was "caused" by TEMP STAFF, who then intimidated the permanent staff.

Next step was to lock in parcells at Pretoria and Johannesburg - I still have a few thousand rands worth of goods that never re-surfaced !! :banned:

BUT, then I look at the long time permanent staff at my local post office - never striked, never did anything wrong. Now their income is on the line due to a system that allows temp staff to ruin a national company .....

again I say, I lost a few thand rand in their last strike, so I am certainly NOT a fan of this company !! But I do feel for the innocent long time staff.

Should this strike last anything more than a few weeks we will see the remainder of the banks and journal distributors turning their back on the post office .. which WILL be the final nail in the coffin

The one thing that does catch my interest - the staff keep on making statements about gross mismanagement and gost staff .... really should be easy enough to investigate ....

PS - moved all my business to private couriers. pay LESS than with SpeedServices, and only had one minor issue (client was not at home, and provided a wrong number..)

Ghost staff members is caused by senior members/financial managers for their own pockets, so I do sympethise to a certain extent for the other members, but the senior staff should be there to see to it that temporary staff as the tail, do not wag the dog.
All the departments are not qualified to do the job as it is jobs for tjommies & not for the most qualified person for the job. This is not just government departments but also private enterprises as well, and for the same reason.
Today you do not need experience in the job, you just need to be able to manage people. The problem is when you need the experience to know what to do when a problem arises and the manager does not know what to do, as the experienced members have all left through the front door. Now the brown stuff starts getting flung all around the room by the preverbial fan. This is when systems start shutting down and complaints get shunted from piller to post as there is just no one left that knows what to do & how to solve the problem...

Chris, that was the biggest damaged caused by the last strike. Clients and especially businesses lost faith in the Post Office and do not use them no more. Many online shops nether added the registered mail option back to their web sites after the strikes.

There are many many businesses who just refuse to use them again after the last strike.

To make matters worse is after the strike they took away the econo parcel. The cheapest you could send a small parcel was R18.00, now it is R46.00 and they also increased the price of speed services to a price way higher than private couriers.

This is nonsense. The CCMA and unions are the main cause of all these workforce issues. If we adopted the same attitude as the americans, then productivity would be at an all time high. Its such a pity you cannot just fire anyone.

Pieter during the last year I had about 5 clients that requested delivery via SpeedServices.

I explained the issues, and made it clear that once sent with SpeedServices we take ZERO responsibility for the goods. But should the client make use of the courier we take full responsibility until he signs for it.

ONE client insisted on SpeedServices, and it took more than a week for delivery .... which would have been 24 hours with the courier.

+One billion Nine Hundred and Seventy Million, listen carefully, and Ninety Seventy Hundred and Twenty.

Can't member the blokes name, but a renound business owner in America said at a conference:" I will only hire if I can fire".

If your behind is on the line, you are going to spark, if you know you can do what you want without facing any consequences, well then, let's just say it'll be more of a holiday than work. Committed much?

all i say is live ammo !!

sure you have the right to strike and march if you not unhappy... but these morons use it as a tactic to pillage and plunder , and generally be destructive with is costing the economy billions.

you show up in well organised march, without any weapons / sticks then i don't have a problem.
But intimidating motorist, jumping on fencing like baboons, looting, smashing windows... live ammo for you.
