Tyre Advise needed please (somewhat urgent)

Post by petri oosthuizen »

:siffler:  Morning Gents.

No I didn't wet my bed - the 2 damn dogs were fighting, and nou sit ek so wakker soos 'n springhaas wat in 'n spotlight se beam vasgevang is.

I want to replace the Bridgestone Dueller AT's on my 2700i DC. Current size is 245/75/15.

Life is just too short for cheap whiskey, menthol cigarettes, Chinese cars and Dueller AT tyres.

My questions :

1) Is there another alternative size that I can get that will give a higher profile tyre?? I'd like the revs to drop a little bit on the open road, that extra little height, and my speedo will also be more accurate with a higher tyre.
2) I don't really want something wider, and definitely not something that sticks past the wheel arches.
3) Tyre must be as quiet as possible, but still with a thread as aggressive as possible.
4) Must be comfortable, like in a soft ride.

I like the Grabber a LOT, as well as the Hankook MT (the latter is actually a AT tyre, but very aggressive thread).

I will look at something else though, if they manufacture that in a higher profile.

I was thinking of going 16', but, although I just HATE the look, I'll stick to the original mags.

THANKS, any advise highly appreciated!!

Agree, this is the best tyre size for your vehicle .... no modifications required unless the front is really sagging, then you might get the occasional fouling against the foot-well at the back of the wheel bay on turns with articulation. Not a train smash. Speedo will be more accurate. The higher profile not only looks better but it gives a bigger air cushion that will help a tiny bit with ride comfort, but also allows for a bigger foot when deflated.

The only thing that I would worry about is the road noise with some of the more aggressive tread patterns. The grabber is a really good value tyre but I'm not sure of the road noise. The Cooper ST is a good all-rounder (STT is too aggressive and noisy, much like the BFG MT KM2) and will give a good mileage (far better than the Hankook).
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Some off-road tyres use the above type size markings while others still use the older American markings, for example - 31x10.5R 15 LT. The significance of these markings are as follows:-

31 = The outside diameter of the tyre in inches.
10.5 = The section width of the tyre, in inches.
R = Radial Construction.
15 = Rim diameter in inches.
LT = Light Truck.
A common problem facing off-roaders is interchanging between these two size systems without interfering with the outside diameter where a variation of only 2-3% is acceptable.

Example

A common example would be changing from a 265/75R 15 LT to a 31x 10.5R 15 LT: Determining the outside diameter of the 31x 10.5R 15 LT is easy; convert 31 inches into millimetres. By using the conversion table "inches to millimetres" we find that 31 inches = 787.4 millimetres.

The outside diameter of the 265/75R 15 LT is calculated as follows:

The section height of the two sidewalls added to the diameter of the rim.
By using the same "inches to millimetres" conversion for the rim diameter we find that 15 (inches) x 25.4mm = 381mm.
The sidewall heights are:- 265mm
Section width x 75% (the aspect ratio) x (two sidewalls):
265 x 75% = 198.75
198.75mm x 2 = 397.50mm
Rim Diameter + 381.00mm
Outside Diameter = 778.50mm
The difference in diameter between the two tyres is 8.9mm or 1.13% which is acceptable.

Maw die diameter op die 31's is 39mm groter as die 245 en is 266mm wyd teenoor 245mm

dus 266/76 R15

Dankie Stef

Enige ander size wat so cm of 2 hoer is (soos daai 39mm hoer 0 dis fine), maar nie veel breer nie??

Ek wil net nie my tyres in my spieeltjies sien nie - ek HAAT dit.

My ander opsies in daai size is
