I read in another thread about a D4D with 650 000km on. I do reckon this is more the exception than the rule though. I am interested to know what sort of trouble-free mileage the average 3.0 D4D motors have on their clocks?

So, what do you, or somebody you know, have on the D4D's odometer?

My d4d 2.5 has 140k on the clock no problem.

Tuna d4d 3.0 man 41k, just problems with the clutch

Uhhhm, seeng that the D4D's have been around longer now and some may have put on a few kilos, hows about sharing please? Perhaps mentioning what has been repaired or upgraded, if anything.......

Mine now has 188 000km on the clock, replace x1 injector and the clutch at 160 000km
Tuna 62 000km no probs to date

There is a guy on the Cruiser Forum who's 2.5 d4d has 830 000km on the clock. Not sure of any problems. :wink2:

I know of a 3D4D tuna with 400k on changed if I remember 3 clutches en 2 times injectors and then just normal wear and tear stuff.

Time has passed and I am sure some of you have done some travelling and clocked up some mileage? Is daar enige van julle met redelike kilos op die D4D? En watse maintanence?

Het 185 000 op my 3.0 en 250 000 op my 2.5. Dit is nie baie nie, maar het nog nie een probleem gehad met hulle nie, behalwe die starter op die 2.5 is reggemaak op 240 000, R630 vir bendix. Verder geen probleem nie.

Ons het 'n D4D 3.0 4x2 by die myn met 230 000 km op,verskilende bestuurder van hulle dink dit is 'n 4x4 het harde km agter die rug is by vere nog die beste ldv in ons fleet en die oudste nog net propshaft vervang clutch en starter en voor disc's en agter dromme ry 90% in die veld en op myn

D4D = 11238 (10 000 service yesterday)
KZTE = 198000

My 2.5 D4D now sitting at 192 000KM - no problems whatsoever
My mountain bike - 3461km (keeping it in the shed to keep the milage low....) seems to work and better resale vale, I keep telling myself...

replaced all injectors @ 180 000km (R14000-00 done at agents)
@300 000 the propshaft had to be balanced
kms is prob. 90% tar
no other problems at all

btw its an 05

my ma nog min op maar het 2 weke terug met 'n ou gepraat wat 'n 2005 sc 4x2 het wat 340 000 km op die klok het ,geen injectors is nog vervang nie ,net clutch op 320 000 Die voertuig doen baie grondpad.

My 3.0 d4d has 200 000km on and i have replaced my gearbox and clutch.

3.0 D4D -2006 model
154 000kms - replaced clutch (although it didnt need to be)
and transfer box seal

thats it other than normal stuff like cambelt etc

My 2.5 D4D sc 4x2 het nou 150 000 gedoen. Starter se bedix, clutch, alternator oorgedoen.
99 % op die plaas, stop, ry, stop, start, jumpstart 'n trekker ens. Sover eintlik tevrede.
3.0 D4D '07 gekoop met 46 000, nou 52 000 op en ek sien uit na 1000'e probleemvrye kilo's, touch wood.

Hi guys! I know this is an old post, but thought I'd share this!

My dad has a 2008 3.0 D4D D/C 4x4, now with an amazing 71 000km on the clock! Not a single moment's trouble, stock standard (except for the canopy) and still has the original battery (which he will be replacing soon)!

I am hoping to have first option when he decides to sell, think he is waiting for a diesel FJ Cruiser or the new Land Cruiser.

Anyway, it's an awesome vehicle, the D4D!

My vorige 3.0d4d 2900000km,

Injector recon, bosch diesel
Clutch, ma hom uitgebrand by 'n veldbrand
80% grondpad plaas bakkie workhorse
1keer 'n week meer as 'n ton laai en dan veldry na beeste toe
3 maande van die jaar sleep hy 'n 1500L dieselkar waentjie

Daar was die gewone ware and tare, universals ens...

Ongelukkig het die versekering hom gekoop nadat ek aan die slaap geraak het agter die stuur en hom in 'n boom opgehang het.

Huidige een 2012 4x2 49000km en 2013 4x4 tuna 11000km, beide geen probleme, nog soos nuut

2007 3.0 D4D with 291,000km op the clock.

Original battery, engin never opened, only cambelt done twice, 3 x sets of shocks and 6 x sets of tires. Only long distance with little city trafic.

Not a days problem (except a very dirty fuel filter two weeks ago.....dodgy fuel station).

I suspect that it will do at least double this. I service it myself and use only the highest quality of servisable parts.

My 2,5 staan ook op 290 000km. Diens hom ook self en hy loop nog soos n horlosie.

4 x 2006 Hilux 2.5 d4d 's in gebruik tans - kilos +/- as volg

230 000 - waterpomp, wheelbearings en gewone dienste, panelbeaters baie , die manne ry rof
150 000 - injector failure, motor op gepak. R 35 000 verder, wheelbearings
270 000 - waterpomp, wheelbearings en dienste
330 000 - waterpomp, wheelbearings en dienste

Ons gooi nouedaags Wynns Injector Cleaner in al ons voertuie (elke 4000km), Injectors lyk na n algemene probleem op die 2.5's, of miskien net die batch wat ons het!!

170 000 no problems yet. Every 10k service at the stealers

220 000km. 2006 model. Gister gediens by stealers teen R1800. Centre bearing en propshafts gedoen so maand terug teen so R6000. Dis al.

As ek so lees dink ek ek is nogal gelukkig om nog niks meganies hoef te vevang behalwe normale diensbare (filters, remskoene, skokbreukers, bande, ens) nie. Die lang afstande help seker. Vandag 292000km en is 2007 model.

2006 3.0 D4D 4x4. Gaan hom nou sy 220 000 km diens gee.

150000 Timing Belt
190000 Waterpomp
195000 Clutch Master Cylinder
215 000 Skokbrekers.

2008 3.0D4D 4X2 DC 200000km injectors op 80 000km gearbox op 180 000km gediens elke 10000km by handelaars. Skokbrekers op 160 000km.

Baie gelukkig met my bakkie. Gaan hom ry tot in scrapyard.

Nuwe kar 2010 3.0D4D 4X4DC 65000km het hom nog net 5000km. Bietjie swak brandstof verbruik maar hoop hy kan beter raak.

i did not see it myself but the workshop foreman at the local Toyota garage, says they service a 3.0 d4d, and it stood on 860 000km the lst service - nothing replaced on it...

Daai geel liggie is 'n common probleem by Hiluxe, veral die 4.0l's. Die dealer het gesê dit kos blykbaar net sowat R950 om die probleem te herstel, maar kan by enige vulstasie gedoen word nie, en hoef nie 'n Toyota approved brand te wees nie. Wel dit gebeur so twee weekliks met my, my Merc het ook dieselfde probleem so lyk my nie daar is 'n oplossing vir die liggie wat so brand nie.

Mikie, have you always run your bakkie on 500ppm? No problems with the injectors yet? Well congrats!

When I got my Bakkie I checked the manual and it clearly states Low sulphur fuel 500ppm can be used (as opposed to ultra low sulphur fuel 50ppm). Up to 100 000 ks I only used 500ppm and then started hearing about injector problems. I have since been using 50 ppm for the last 120 000 ks and the injectors are still fine. The bakkie's fuel consumption is unchanged and it doesn't smoke.

I generally try go for 50PPM and if the station has it I will take that, but not all petrol stations have 50, so then I just take 500, one tank out of 10 shouldnt matter I change my fuel filter often enough

My 06' has nearly hit the 200k mark i got it at 168k
Replace clutch and brakes pads at 170k
Replace waterpump and radiator on 180K
and the 190k service i was told everything is in good order now :)

Well guys so good for you all! As you might have read some op my posts I have trade-in the Hilux for a 2010 Fortuner 4x4 with 45000km on the clock. The question I have asked was if the soft wining in 4H (40/60 split on the fortuner was normal), went to Toy on Friday last week, and apparently this has been in their bulletin as a common problem. Same as the "Sonbesie" in the Vigo's clutch! I have done some extreme surfing on the web for 'common" problems experienced with the Fortuner, none found, since I found the correct spelling for wining, actually "whining". Sorry, bietjhie engels gestrem. Missed my factory garuntee with 10 days, now R14k is suggested for replacement of the box, however, I was told that nothing will break, it is just the gear mesh that is causing the whining.

Ek is bevark, my DC 2007 het net 124000km op gehad met geen poef nie! Maar ja. as jou gat jeuk moet jy hom krap? Koop 'n staal borsel vir R15 en get done with it!

AS hulle 'n bulletin op hom uit het sal ek aandring dat hulle dit regmaak. Veral as dit net 10 dae later is.

I also think we should include the year of make with the mileage. I am from Zimbabwe, bought my gem in October 2010 and have done 190 000km. Changed the shocks at 160 000, and the battery at 170 000. Change my tires every 70 000 bad service every 10 000km. Still no injector problems (touch wood) and my interior is always clean. Due for a change this year but I am not sure to get the facelift or wait for the new model whenever she comes.

Mine is a 2005, 2,5 d4d 4x4, it will turn over to 300 000km's in the next month or so. Still the same injectors and everything else. I changed the clutch on 290 000km's. But the turbo is staring to leak oil. Will have to ask a expert on what it can possibly be.

Mine has less than 99000.

Replaced 2 injectors in before shipping to mozambique. My car is hiluxsurf d4d limited edition with 1st gen d4d with less output than fortuner.

2009 model. 118,000km. Net normale dienste. Geen probleem vanaf dag een.

2007 model double cab 3.0d4d het nou 175400 op. clutch vervang op 165000 en n waterpomp wat gelek het op 140000. Vol diens record by toyota.

Five years later...
Can we gather some more high mileage 3.0 D4D data from owners?

I have a 2010 with 235 000km on the clock.
Want to determine whether I keep it for another 250 000km, or whether its time to look over the fence.

lots of clutches...
...and quite some gearbox issues as well.
And not to be funny, but no real high mileage apart from "I heard"...

2012 3L D4D A/T with 125 000 km on the clock.
No major repairs. Hope to keep it that way.

Sold my new 2.4 GD6 D/C 4x4 due to gearbox issues and other frustrations and bought a 2010 Tuna with 105000 Km's in mint condition. So far done 5 trips from the West rand down to Mosselbay with no problems (121000 Km's), it runs like a Swiss clock watch.

Comparing the gearbox actions between the D4D Tuna and the GD6 is like chalk and cheese, the former far smoother and "normal", whilst the latter is more nippy, but overall I'm happier than a pig in sh#t!
